Wednesday Presser Predictions

Assistant coaches have 1 year contracts. They do not have the golden parachute like most head coaches. If KF were to resign, they would be out the door as soon as their annual contract renewal date rolled around.
Actually, the current trend in college football is for 2 or 3 year contracts for assistants. I would wager strongly that several (if not all) Iowa assistants have multi-year deals. If not, that's yet another area where the Iowa football program is well behind the times.

My prediction. Jake Christiansen is named as the new OC and head of QB development.

DJK comes on as a GA and party planner for year round birthday parties for the players.

Dallas Clark comes on as the new OL-TE coach and wine distributor for the cheerleaders.

Brian Ferentz injures his arm and moves on to coach the LB's. (Since our LB's don't need to use hands and such)

Kurt comes out as a cross dressing trannie in love with derp Davis both are moving to San francisco to begin their new lives.

If KF somehow made sure the assistance were protected if he did step down (which I highly doubt he will) that would make it very difficult to find a new HC. I think Barta is an idiot, but he does at least have half a brain. Why would any guy take a HC job if he had to use specific assistance. If Iowa goes shopping for a new HC its already going to be hard to find someone. You wouldn’t want that bogging it down as well.

Captain K will annouce his retirement...at the end of his contract in 2020. That's assuming Barta doesn't give him another extension.

As much as kurts presser history has taught us to never expect anything, I think we may see something with this one. I wouldn't be shocked if he announced this next year was his last. This would given bary garta a year to find the successor.

Personally if that is all I would say it should have waiting until spring so it would be after signing day. That's why I think the successor should be hired this year pre-signing day.

Or... It could be just another press conference about nothing and you just wanna goat kick kf in the mons pubis. ? Does he normally do an end of year presser or is this abnormal?

Words from Barta in 2010:

"I've said publicly, and privately to Kirk, that it would be my goal to have him retire at Iowa. This contract is a statement supporting that commitment," said Gary Barta, the UI's director of athletics, who also noted that Ferentz's experience at the UI also includes eight years in the 1980's as a member of Fry's coaching staff.
"Kirk's ‘fit' at Iowa and his desire to live and work here is as strong as any I've seen. The continuity and leadership he brings as our head coach and the same among his staff of assistant coaches provides us a great foundation and important stability," Barta added.

I'm seriously sick of Ferentz blaming the state of Iowa on his recruiting failures. Wisconsin certainly hasn't had a problem bringing in talent. Neither has Boise State or Kansas State or Nebraska or Utah or hell even North Dakota State to some degree. Tell me what recruiting advantage the state of Wisconsin has over the State of Iowa? Ho Chunk Casinos? The Dells? It's just a friggin excuse. Nobody is asking for a top 10 recruiting class every year, but Iowa struggles to crack the top 60 losing regularly to schools like Vanderbilt.

No Wisconsin State.

That's all fine and dandy but kf is also a piece of this puzzle and I think he is doing some hard reflection about whether he has enough to turn the program around right now. I think kf does the right thing either this year or next year and retires doing what he thinks is best for the program.

Yeah but we're talking University of Iowa PR and Gary Barta though...

Yep. It is pretty obvious that this coach does not value recruiting. Earlier in his career at Iowa, he used to express his loathing for recruiting. Now, he just doesn't try very hard at it...and very few admins really understand the concept of losing a year of recruiting. I would not be surprised at all to hear a "future retirement" plan from KF/Barta. Just clueless. KF will do a victory lap and not have to recruit--people will have a year to ask him questions about his legacy and he gets to re-write it to his liking.

Doesn't matter. It only matters if both programs are going after the same kid and the other gets it. That doesn't happen often for Iowa against ISU.

But how many in state recruits would Iowa get if ISU were not around. We would get a few upgrades and have better depth.
