We need shooters.

All we have is hustle guys, which is fun to see the energy, but without some truly talented shooters we will be stuck in bubble land.

we are overloaded with tweeners, get us into a half court shooting match and we will lose every time.

i want some talented scorers, we have enough hustle guys.

JO is a shooter. J U is a shooter. We just needed better possessions at the end.

Had a bad shooting night. I mean we had open looks just didn't knock them down and that happens. I mean if we just hit 2 more of those taken we shoot our Avg. from 3pt land.

I thought our 1/2 court offense was good tonight. How many big shots did we hit when ISU was making a mini run? I mean seriously we make the FT, we win that game, we didn't lose it cause of bad 1/2 court offense.

Iowa's ability to stop Iowa State runs was absolutely demoralizing as a clone fan. Honestly hated watching the vast majority of that game.

It was the single biggest thing I was worried about going into the game. ISU ability to go on a 10-0 run very quickly was what I thought would do Iowa in. As it was, they did an excellent of getting baskets to stop the runs.

The more I think about the game the more I am impressed with the game plan and execution from Iowa. Those that say Fran got out coached are idiots. I think the game plan and rotations that Fran used kept the game winnable for Iowa......they just didn't hit the FT when needed.

Iowa State has a lot of credibility under Hoiberg and rightfully so because they have earned it. You have a good team this year that is different than the teams of the past seasons. This is one is gritty and finds a way to win so I tip my cap.

There is a lot of disappointment because we have been playing pretty good basketball for 2 and half seasons but cannot get over the hump in games like this. As much as it hurts to lose to ISU it hurts equally to continue to lose close games down the stretch many of which we had a multi-possession lead.

The bottom line is I am extremely happy that this program showed up under difficult circumstances, played good basketball and fought to put themselves in position to beat a really good team and program. We have come a long way in a short time without an influx of ready made players and eventually the breaks will go our way. We were TCU just a couple of seasons ago. Hang in there Hawks and keep working.

I hear what you're saying, but it's time to start closing the deal and winning these games.

This X1000.

This game will pay more dividends for Iowa this season than last years NIT run did. A lot of guys hit big shots with Hilton going crazy to silence the crowd when ISU had cut it to a one possession game. Hang on to one loose ball or hit a couple free throws and its an Iowa win.

And Oglesby will be back next game.

Honestly my wife and I said multiple times that we wished we had sold our tickets. 100% convinced they were going to lose, and I really mean it when I say the best compliment I can give is that Iowa made me hate watching Iowa State basketball for about 39 minutes.

Iowa is the absolute best team I have seen at getting Iowa State out of what they want to do offensively. The crowd was absolutely dead for 90% of the game. They stepped up at the end when Iowa was at the ft line but michigan was 10x the atmosphere and it was all due to the hawks. Have no problem saying the hawks were probably better and the game plan and execution on offense and defense was outstanding. That's very good coaching there.

Sometimes crap happens on the road especially at Hilton. I know it seems to happen a lot for you guys and I get the frustration with the way you guys lost. However this is a hawk team that will be in the tourney and have a chance to make a run there. None of what happened yesterday changes that.

I felt Uthoff was going to be the guy that knocked down the clutch shot when we needed it this season. He had two opportunities down the stretch last night that could have provided the difference and obviously came up short. I guess the search for a clutch shooter continues. Very disappointing.

Why are people convinced JO is a good shooter when his stats say otherwise.
I know. IIRC I spent a majority of the season last year screaming for him NOT to shoot the ball. Maybe this season will be different. If so, I will gladly stand corrected.

Good God, shut up. Hilton Magic is overblown hack beat writer stuff, Iowa wasn't in a tough situation, Iowa State was. Iowa was in position to make a few FTs and win.

Iowa was in an easy situation and they blew it.

I disagree totally with the OP. Iowa has the talent to play with most teams, anywhere (home, road or neutral court) and build a big lead and/or have the lead late. The problem is, it is consistently blowing games like this in crunch time. It proved that over and over again last year, and the same thing is proving to be true this year (unfortunately).

It's not a matter of talent. It's a matter of playing 40 minutes of basketball and finishing games like this.

I don't expect to win every close game, no. But until Iowa proves to me that it can start to win some of these close games against ranked opponents, I have a hard time believing Iowa is going to take that next step and be anything better than a bubble/NIT team.

Conference play is nearly upon us.. If Iowa is going to break this habit of blowing games, it had better do it right quick.

Agree to disagree. Stats bear out that it is alive and well. 2 years ago Iowa State had the greatest disparity in fouls between home/away of any team in the country. I think gessell would have a different opinion than you.

Nothing wrong with admitting Iowa State has a great home court and I might have made the difference in the game yesterday.

I hope Gesell would be man enough to admit that he simply screwed up and missed some FTs, he sure as hell wouldn't blame magic.

That arena was no louder than the average full arena. Sure, it's populated by more virgins (rushing the court after beating a team that is ranked lower than you) but not nearly as special as Cyclone fans want to admit.

Hilton Magic is something idiot writers like Mike Hlas need in order to come up with a lede. But in reality, latching on to these things show how little real success ISU has achieved.

Iowa fans acting like Kinnick is something sacred are similar, with the biggest difference being that the Iowa fan base has experienced success, so we don't latch on to silly things like 'so proud' and 'Hilton Magic.'

Iowa's marketing team tries, remember 'let's be mad again,' but most fans ignore it. ISU fans embrace it.

Agree.

I said the crowd was dead yesterday. However, they stepped up at the end. Reid Gettys said it was the loudest he's ever heard an arena. The guy who called the mich/isu game said it was louder than any arena in the ACC. Why is this difficult to admit for some people?

Because we watch sports and understand announcers suck off whatever building they are in. Do you live in a bubble, announcers always suggest that the home team's traditions are amazing.
