We need better coaches

Plain and simple. If we want to win another BIG title. It's easy enough to point to player mistakes but the coaches decide who gets playing time. The coaches decide who gets scholarship offers. This is a 7 or 8 win program in a shit division, until the coaching staff gets upgraded. 3 OOC cupcakes, 4 or 5 shit West division wins and a Bowl game consolation.

I know this is old, but the main difference between Fry and Ferentz are the coaches who are/were under them. Hayden hired guys who aspired to be HCs, so they were hungry and aggressive. Ferentz hires yes men that go along with the program, so they are stale and uninspired.

This coaching has sapped my interest in watching Iowa football.

We have one coach who aspires to be a head coach. The coach who made the call to QB sneak on a long one yard play on the 5 yard line instead of using a 200 lb RB. God forbid he ever is the head coach at Iowa.

I am on record as a pro KF guy, but if BF becomes our head coach I will be very angry.

You don't figure your two Sr. offensive linemen will get stood up...they are supposed to get lower than the defense. The sneak with a 240lb QB isn't a bad call...we didn't execute...Wisconsin did. The pitch to IKM would have worked too if Ross takes on Connelly rather than try to take out his legs. He should not allowed him to go over him like that to our RB. Execution.

Even with the mishaps in the red zone...we still should have won the game. The two turnovers by the punt team cost Iowa the game...not our offensive coordinator. That took two possession away from us...one with a start at the 45 yard line of Wisconsin when we had the momentum. The other gave them a touchdown. That was your ball game.

I’m not a huge ferentz fan and the qb sneak was not good but the special teams miscues cost us this game. It sucks but after rewatching the game we made some really good play calls and some not so good, as did the other team. I don’t think hanging this all on coaches is legit, but that’s just my opinion. Played good enough to win but made dumb mistakes on special teams you get coached on in jr high. Their kids and they make mistakes.

Win One , gotta agree with your thoughts , offense played good enough to win , defense played good enough to win , I was screaming at Beyer to get away from the ball long before he hit it with his back foot , I thought they taught in grade school football to get away from the darn ball , he handed 7 pts to Wisky and the game on that one play , normally I do not believe one play ever costs a team a game , but that one did , the fumble on the punt return , admire the effort but he was pretty careless hanging onto the ball , special teams coach needs to be visited with that's for sure

This is what we get with the offensive scheme we play. Every game is basically 50/50 chance for both teams going into the final minutes of each game.

What happened to the offense from the OSU game? We do we see that trend every year, one or two games where we don’t play Kirk ball and we have great results.

WI was expecting us to play our game. And it’s something they know all too well.

Stanley was accurate until the end of the game, why couldn’t we have been more pass happy before that? Take advantage of his hot hand ? That again shows that we don’t scratch where it itches or even scheme to an opponent. WE HAVE TO BE BALANCED!! 50 runs 50 passes!!!

I knew we were fudged on the 3rd and 6 shotgun sweep. It was so risk adverse and while it was early in the game, it sets a tone. We are scared to make a mistake! And guess what, we still make them

I never thought about this before but you’re right. What has any Kirk assistant gone on to do?

Yes, I don't believe at this point he is Iowa's next head coach. I could be wrong.

I also think KF probably has 4-5+ years left...

4-5 years is a long time. At that point BF will be pushing 40. I still think KF is done after the 2020 season. Be prepared to be angry because it will be his kid taking over.

Most fans will be happy about junior taking the reigns. That's the problem with Iowa's fan base. Most of them are bigger Ferentz fans than Iowa fans.

They are one fluke fumble away from having a seven game heater on us. That's on more than the players. Very obvious then who it is on. We've had decent coaches, they've just had better, at almost every matchup. They exploit what they need to, when they need to, every damn time. It's like a complete reversal of the eighties, early nineties, when Fry was a little bit better than McClain and we recruited an executed better

I saw it unfold right in front of me again last night. Wisconsin was beatable. They did a better job making adjustments and exploiting matchups. Coaching. We may lose another five or six on a row against them before this is all said and done.

Here's another sign of good coaching: Trust. Chryst completely trusted his defense which is why he kept punting in the fourth quarter, waiting for his opportunity. His last opportunity, starting on the 12, wasn't great, but he completely trusted that he could exploit matchups on key downs. I think he was originally thinking tie but once he got in the red zone he was thinking jugular. Complete trust in his guys.

Where was our pressure on that last drive. We could have perhaps got the sack or pick if we rattle Hornibrook. But, not to be.

Thats the formula for "success" in the eyes of your favorite athletic director, the one with the initials "GGB":)

Who puts the players on the field that can't execute? Who recruits said players that aren't talented enough to execute?

Nailed it. He had a great run from 2001-2010. He had KOK and Norm doing the heavy lifting and as a fan I'll always be grateful of that time.

Since mid way through that 2010 season, specifically after getting run over by Wisconsin in the 4th quarter I noticed a change. The toughness was gone. I said that much after that game and I got called out by a lot of people.

Well the program hasn't been the same since. Specifically the lack of mental and physical toughness. Kirk was gifted a huge thing when the East/West split put Iowa in the easiest P5 division 5 years ago. Wisconsin has taken full advantage while Iowa has dropped the ball. Last night was proof to me that this program is not going forward with KF. Neutral with a little idling forward, then some steps back, maybe a quick surge here or there. But there will be no rankings or west division championships with KF in charge. Iowa fan until death but I'm done with Kirk.
