We could use some blowouts this year...

Wishful thinking I know but I would love to get some young guys playing time on the DL. We lose so much next year that there will be voids everywhere.

Eastern Illinois and Ball St will be blowouts, we wont have an Arkansas St/UNI situation.

I said that last year about ASU and UNI but look what happened. We play down to competition (unless is MN) we WIN, but we play down.

We also need some blowouts for the fans sake. I about went crazy this past season watching all of those close games.

I would love to see a few games be put away by early in the second half (the more the better) so we can sit back enjoy the 4th quarter and see some of the younger players get playing experience.

I dont think we need blowouts this year, we just need to play better AT HOME against teams we should be handily. I dont think we need to win by 30+ points but with all of the tough games we play at home this year, we need to play a ton better than we did in 2009 at Kinnick.......

I have a pretty good feeling about this. Assuming everyone is healthy (of course (and knock on wood)), I think the odds are pretty good for us to woodshed a few teams... Well, "woodshed" for a KF-led team, anyway. So you know, like, 14-21 point victories.

We haven't put any team away for a long time,it would be nice to see the 2nd team get some quality minutes but don't hold your breath. At least we know how to win the close games.

Good thread.

I don't know about the need for bad-azz blowouts ... however, owning comfortable leads would certainly be nice.

I totally agree with the original premise though .... blowouts and/or comfortable leads would afford the coaches greater flexibility with regard to rotating young guys into the line-up. Furthermore, it would also help us work more RBs into the rotation ... helping to keep them a bit happier.

In addition to needing inexperienced guys on the DL see more reps, I also think that we need some inexperienced LBs to get more broken in. Namely, if Bruce doesn't win a starting gig ... we still need him, DiBona, and Morris to be seeing some good reps in 2010.

Lastly, owning nice margins will also allow guys like Vandenberg and Davis to see even more reps. Lastly, it would allow some of our promising young TEs (Fiedorowicz, Griggs, and Getz) to be in a position to be the #1 look for a change ... and we'll need somebody to be prepared to be the top TE in 2011 after Reisner leaves!

Another thing to remark upon is that Iowa came out of the gate in such a manner against Arkansas State, Northwestern, and Georgia Tech that we arguably could have blown out our opponent had Stanzi not thrown the picks that he had (the pick against Northwestern ultimately led to his injury). Obviously the pick-sixes helped prevent Iowa from giving a number of teams an early knockout blow ... Arizona, Michigan, and Georgia Tech are good examples there.

Lastly, personnel issues on O seriously hampered our execution on O through a hunk of the season ... and that ended up making it a bit easier for opposing Ds to defend us.

Can folks imagine how the O could have turned out had just a few injuries not happened. How about if Moeaki and Richardson had remained healthy throughout the entire season? How about if Richardson, Wegher, and Robinson had all remained healthy? How about if Stanzi and Richarson had remained healthy?

You could just feel it at around the Indiana game ... were it not for injuries ... it just felt like the Iowa O was so close to finally breaking out. However, through each game, key name after key name ended up going down to injury ....

With the squad that we have now ... if we can remain as healthy as we managed to be in 2002 or 2008 .... then the blow-outs will come.
