....according to reports. Noteworthy, also, in that the AD is a woman (Jen Cohen).

If I'm Beth Goetz, or her agent, I'd let it be known that I am interested in chatting.

To who about what? Think she'd rather go to Washington? I think she's in line to become the fulltime AD at Iowa. I don't know her but from what all I'd seen on her recently it feels like she's pretty all in and entrenched at Iowa now. For her to bail and go to Washington would be odd

I think Iowa wants her as the permanent AD. I think she wants to be Iowa's AD. But if she's a good enough candidate to have other Big Ten schools inquiring about her (and she is a great candidate), and Iowa wants to keep her, then Iowa should name her permanent AD.

It feels like a formality at this point that she will be. I thought Iowa should open it up and do a nation wide search but it doesn't feel like they really are. It's her gig and it was going to be her gig when they first brought her in to be # 2 to Barta. So far so good everything I've ever seen about her is great. Hope that continues.

Doesn't the University HAVE to open it up to a nationwide search, even if it is just for show? I thought they had certain rules around positions like this. Maybe it doesn't apply to athletics?

That ain't how it works. Even if the administration has her as a lock and fully intends to give her the job, they aren't going to go announcing it without going through a comprehensive search for applicants and interview process. That's how lawsuits and chaos happens.

And who the hell would want to go to Washington to be a friggin' AD? Jesus Mary Christ, man...

Cohen made $750K at Washington, Farta is over a million and you know very well she's gonna make more than that at Iowa.

What in god's name would make someone want to go to Washington over Iowa? Especially when she's going to be the one making the next football and basketball hires and Washington doesn't have an NIL collective.

Also, add in how much bigger IA's budget will be than UW's until they start getting a full share of B1G $$$ in like 7 years.

Yes there's probably laws against what I'd said. But it's like the Rooney rule in the NFL. Yes they gotta interview a token black guy for every HC job but they don't have to hire one. Iowa has to go through the dog and pony show of posting the job and sifting through resumes and even doing some interviews. But they already have their hire..

Then tell me how it works. Barta announced his retirement in May. The University said it is looking to hire his replacement in early 2024.

How many other P5 schools have taken 6-8 months to find permanent replacements for athletic directors or head football or basketball coaches? And for those that did, how many ultimately selected the interim director?

I'm not arguing that one is a better job than the other. Or that she should take the job. Or that she should threaten to leave. I'm saying it's in Team Goetz's best interest to receive another AD offer to a competitive Big Ten school. Or at least let it be known that UW is interested. What's the downside for her?

She's already served as interim AD at a Big Ten school and was passed up. The job is hers when there is a signed contract.

These are good questions. I just think that the school and her already know. It's a you know that they know that they know that you know thing between them and the media/public. Yeah for whatever reasons they are playing the long game formally. I don't know if that's school rules/state laws involved or what. But if you went into her office I bet she's pretty well unpacked. I bet she's purchased a home and not renting. I think back when they brought her in as Bartas #2 it was with the understanding they wanted her to replace him. It just happened that Barta got himself pushed out a little sooner then he and others thought he might. I mean technically BF answers to the AD and not KF but everyone knows better then that too.

The media has all but crowned her and been singing her praises this whole time. Dochterman I think has all but said he doesn't think they should open up the search. He thinks she's as qualified as anyone out there so who would be better that's even available? I bet most of the Iowa media agrees. So there's zero heat from that side of things for the school to do anything different then just go through the dog and pony show of whatever time table they've setup and interview a few token candidates with no shot at the job and hire her full time for it early next yr.

Right, but then why not hire her now? The search started - or could have - in May. If Iowa knows she's the one, why are they waiting until 2024?

My guess is the school has their own made up rules and maybe state hiring laws they gotta 'abide by'. It's a dog and pony show. End of the day if anyone else is hired for this job I'll be shocked.

UW just hired native Iowan and former UNI AD Troy Dannen. It's been about six weeks since the previous AD left for USC.

Why again does Goetz still have an interim tag?

Other schools are doing comprehensive, nationwide searches and hiring candidates in 6 weeks.
Everyone knows she’s going to be the new AD. What exactly is your beef with the whole situation? She’s not leaving, is this some weird infuriation with the interim tag?

Tell us exactly what’s lost (or gained) by keeping or removing the interim tag.

They’re keeping up legality and appearances by calling her the interim AD while they do token interviews. What the hell is the harm? They know they’re going to hire her and so does she.

Good for the goose and the gander. I don’t see the frickin problem here.

If Iowa wants her as the permanent AD, and she wants the gig, then I find it odd that she still has an interim tag.

Fryowa, Barta stepped down in May. Whatever "token" interviews Iowa needed to conduct could have (should have) been done months ago. Other schools conduct nationwide searches and find a candidate within weeks.

Maybe Iowa is using this as a trial period to see how she performs? Which is totally fine and even understandable. But also why if you are Goetz's agent you take calls from other schools. Her stature is growing nationally.

There is also potentially a huge wild card at play here. The son of the most powerful person at the university reports to her. And her report is the most polarizing and least popular (and underperforming) person in the athletic department.

We don't have any idea if administration officials or donors are talking to Goetz about the situation. Things could go sideways any number of ways depending on what Kirk hears. You have said yourself you think he is going senile and intentionally tanking the program.

If I'm Goetz, I'd want that interim tag removed now.

Buts she's not going to skip out now. She's already on the track faster than what she prob imagined with Barta's departure. She already has the inline for the position and knows Iowa is going to fill it permanently. There would be no reason for her to leave now if wanting to be an AD in the BIG, which she obviously does as was at Minnesota before, than Ball State and now back.

1. You're not Goetz. You're assuming you know what she wants.

2. She has the same powers that Farta had. If she wanted to do something with Brian she could.

3. You failed to answer my question...What is lost (or gained) by keeping the interim title? Your personal butthurt-ness doesn't count. I want to hear real, tangible, non-speculative examples of how this is harming the U by still referring to her position as interim. Just because you're butthurt doesn't mean that she is.
