Washington's AD is leaving for USC

Buts she's not going to skip out now. She's already on the track faster than what she prob imagined with Barta's departure. She already has the inline for the position and knows Iowa is going to fill it permanently. There would be no reason for her to leave now if wanting to be an AD in the BIG, which she obviously does as was at Minnesota before, than Ball State and now back.
1. You're not Goetz. You're assuming you know what she wants.

2. She has the same powers that Farta had. If she wanted to do something with Brian she could.

3. You failed to answer my question...What is lost (or gained) by keeping the interim title? Your personal butthurt-ness doesn't count. I want to hear real, tangible, non-speculative examples of how this is harming the U by still referring to her position as interim. Just because you're butthurt doesn't mean that she is.
Easy, my man. Easy. You're coming in pretty hot. I'm not personally offended by the situation. I find it interesting and curious - perfect for message board speculation! No need to read the thread if you aren't interested. I'm sort of intrigued by the inner workings of the athletic department and administration though.

The university isn't harmed at all by leaving the interim tag - only the risk that she might decide to leave for a full time opportunity if pursued hard. Maybe they want to keep paying her only $600k for as many months as possible to save a few bucks. The window needed for recruiting/interviewing others has long since passed. Which is maybe why guys like Tom Brands and Brad Stevens are also asking why she has the interim tag still. Scott Dochterman has also implied that other Big Ten ADs have asked him off the record if there is some kind of hold-up, because they consider her such a rising star as well.

I assume a deal will likely get done, as both parties seem to want the same end goal. It could be a money thing at this point. Cohen was making $1.2M or $1.3M at UW and left for presumably more money at USC. Goetz might be looking for $1.5M, and the university was trying to low ball her for more like $1M.

Who knows though. Just speculating my man.

I assume she wants this job. Which means she wants a multi-year contract. She has been interim for 5 months. So, to answer your third point, Fry, from her perspective what is "lost" is certainty and job security. Interim means interim. Until a permanent contract is offered, I would personally not feel totally secure.

I think the overall point some are making here is, what the hell is taking so long when seemingly we have the person we want already in the house? Make it official.

The AD job at Iowa is one of the best. Plus, whoever is next will be hiring the men’s football and basketball coach in the next few years. We’re competitive in almost every sport.

Leaving for Washington would be like leaving an interim CEO position at Google to work at Yahoo.

She's not leaving for UW. They just hired former UNI AD Troy Dannen after a 6 week search. But UW was also paying $1.2M or $1.3M annually, and that was before moving to the Big Ten. And its former AD left for more money at USC. So I guess we'll see what Iowa is paying for the gig. Right now Goetz is making $600k and might be thinking she is doing a job worth about $1.5M. She is also looking at a potential showdown with the most powerful person at the university over an extremely emotional issue related to a family member.

Right now, Beth has no leverage. While the early signs are good she hasn't been at it very long and we don't know about fundraising or any plans to improve our stadiums and arenas to a more 2023 level and more luxurious bars and restaurants-actually any bars and restaurants. Carver seems ancient, although I remember attending the first game there, it seems ages ago. Kinnick is an ancient stadium in dire need of modernization and improved amenities and bathrooms.

Beth deserves the first chance; glad she's getting it and her early work has looked promising. But the next AD has a lot to do in a changing environment, not changing in favor of Iowa and school's like us. Plus replacing the three highest profile coaches might all be done by the next AD. Kirk and Fran are nearing retirement age already. Hard as it is to believe, Lisa is now 62. It looks like the next 4 or 5 years are looking pretty good so I could Lisa taking her pension to a warmer climate when she's around 68.

It's much more important to make this choice right than to make it right now. If Beth gets the permanent job she should also get a good signing bonus to make up for lower pay in the year she worked at only $600K.

Dochterman reporting she is now a candidate at multiple other universities. It goes back to my original post. I'd be looking for leverage if I were her, too.
