I did see this yesterday. Weird. I forget, is that where he came from to Iowa? The only upside with Hecklinski and Iowa is that he is poised to start. That might be enough to keep him, but who knows if $$$$ will play a part. Wild west.

He musta been mad we didn't use the slow mesh very much. Naw guys like that don't set roots anywhere they hop around till he can get an OC/QB job. He wasn't gonna get that anytime soon here.

I think he was most likely a one year and done deal from the start. Tim Lester knew him from a previous stop and saw an opportunity to get someone who could help him game plan. From what I read he was a pretty valuable piece. My guess is he is closer to home at Virginia Tech, maybe some added responsibilities that could lead to an OC gig somewhere in 2027.

He is the reason we got Hecklinski so that's been a good thing. If Heck gets the starting nod, I see no reason for him to transfer to and follow Ruggiero. He could end up being a three year starter.

Once. We used it once. Kept thinking we would come back to it.
Which did surprise me cause Mark and his style of QB play shoulda lent itself to having that work pretty well. Then again that's also an Oline sort of play too where they gotta be on the same page too. You can get Olineman down field on those pretty easily. Woulda been nice to have seen it here or there a few more times.

I think they decided to simplify things for Gronowski. They needed to get Gronowski used to the system and find things that he could do under the circumstances. Not a good time for new innovations that mess with Gronowski's timing.

Yeah that's where a 1 yr rental can kinda limit you. Especially one that couldn't practice in the spring at all. I think the idea of a Hecklinski being named the starter going forward really entices Lester because he's had a yr in the program now to learn and will have spring/fall camps and then could potentially be a 3 yr starter. I think most OCs would love that sort of situation

I am not inside the room but it could have also been a situation where the coaches love it but the players don't and are not confident. As a coach you will always call plays that your players are comfortable with. At the very least it gave Lester and everyone else some experience with it to keep working on it and like you said if Hecklinski is the guy going forward he brings that extra experience he had with it.

Exactly and nor am I. We have no idea how much they practiced it and to what extent. Maybe they really tried and they just couldn't get it right in practice so they didn't have much confidence in it. It's impossible to know unless say Lester of KF or Mark were to talk about it.

I think what a lot of people lose perspective on is how much practice time these guys actually have and how much they have to cover. They are limited in how many hours the coaches have contact with them so big team sessions grinding out details of the mesh system would be pretty difficult especially when you need to do that with interchangeable personnel in the O-line. Big difference between doing that and grinding film in a small group or individual basis

I would think Hecklinski would be more inclined to stay than go to VA Tech. With Grunkemeyer transferring in, he's most likely be the back-up there for a year or two. He's the frontrunner to running the Iowa offense for the next few seasons. But, then again, with the way this portal crap is going, almost nothing is a guarantee anymore. Major tweaks need to be done to this system.

Is it still 20 hrs/week? That's what I remembered it used to being anyway and that included everything between in pads and meetings. Individual and team. It used to be a really strict thing. Just the other day Miamis QB Beck had said something about being in the building from like 5 am-6 pm everyday and that raised some eyebrows.. If for no other reason then who goes to classes anymore? haha

Not sure on the exact rules but I'm pretty sure it us under 30 hours a week for those required things. Film study, playing catch, extra routes I believe has always been the same and on your own with no coaches. I am not sure if a GA or someone else can be present to shag balls etc. I do not know if they have mandatory study hall that they must attend or if they can even do that. At this point with on-line classes and it being the wild west I'm not sure why anyone even bothers anymore. I guess the main point is that it's not like a 9-5 job where they stay and get stuff done until it is done they do have restrictions they have to abide by and even the NFL has rules for contact time.
