Three Big Ten teams advanced to the Sweet 16. Will you be rooting for them this week or does your Iowa loyalty prevent you from cheering for the enemy? Please vote now!

No. If they're up against a blue blood, I'd like them to win. But I never pull for another Big10 team to win.

Yup. "B1G 10 all in". If you don't think it matters to the young players to see a team that they beat go to an Elite 8 or further, then you are crazy. What will these kids learn from watching as 3 teams that they beat go to the Elite 8? I am rooting and rooting hard for Wisconsin, Purdue and Michigan because we beat them. If it was Northwestern, Minnesota or Illinois then hell no.

I take it on a team by team basis. I'm not one to care about conference pride. I am rooting for Michigan and Purdue, but not Wisconsin. I was rooting for Minnesota and Northwestern to lose ASAP.

No brainer as the better the conference does the better we look being a member of it. Look at it this way; if we end up running the table as a conference it makes the B1G look extremly strong and being in the NIT isn't so bad. If our conference foes all get bounced out early it makes the conference look like a joke and anyone that went to the NIT look like a joke. Doing well as a conference also helps recruiting against teams out of our conference because what really good recruit doesn't want to play in the top conference in the USA?

GO B1G or don't go at all!!! That would make one hell of a bumper sticker.

In this situation .. always. The better the conference looks, the better Iowa looks.

GO HAWKS!!!

I could be way off base but I'm not sure it's that simple. Iowa competes much more frequently in recruiting with the other B1G schools than they do other teams.

So when these teams have more success in the post season, it only makes it more difficult for Iowa to win the recruiting battles against these Big 10 schools. I would wager that individual recruits care much more about the schools post season success than they care about the conference a school is in or the strength of that conference.

Yes.

Especially in "down years" when everyone is taking their shots at the B1G. I can't root for ISU, but I can root for other B1G teams.

We don't out recruit Wisconsin, Purdue or Michigan....yet. I don't think recruiting would be impacted at all by these teams performing well. Hell our class is already full for next year anyways. I care more about the lesson our young players can learn from watching a team that they beat go out and achieve something that we didn't. That really drives home the importance of consistency.

I do up until a certain point. For instance, last year I was rooting for Wisconsin so the Big 10 would look good. But after awhile I was rooting against them because no way in hell I want them winning a national championship.

I really don't give two sharts about any team but Iowa. Not sure where all this rah rah conference crap started, but I for one don't get it.

It may have all started when espn began pimping $EC football as NFL-light.

Or it may have started where most dumb things start; Ames. Clone-bags used to tell me how awesome big 12 football was or how awesome big 12 bb is. I imagine to make up for their own shortcomings.

Does it reflect on one because their brothers' wife is hot? Does it make you a good parent because your neighbor's kid is on the honor roll?

Maybe folks just need something to cheer for. [shrug]

The next post of yours I see I'm going to give a like since I can't give this one two.

Two things.

1. I have never really subscribed to the conference pride idea. B1G teams not named Iowa in the Sweet 16 don't benefit Iowa one bit.

2. I will be dead in the cold cold ground before I root for anything Wisconsin.

I"m rooting for Michigan because I like the style and the coach. hate Michigan otherwise.

Purdue is looking better than I expected, but I don't see them in F4. Actually none of the Big 10 teams. But who knows.

I agree.

Of course, guys have different reasons to go where they go. Some championships. Some playing time. Some geography. Having teams do well that recruit in your footprint is giving yourself the rope for them to hang you later.

Fortunately in the Midwest, Illinois' relationship to Chicago is a dumpster fire. It has been since Holtz "retired".
