If I remember right Iowa's D massively over-pursued on that particular run. LSU runningback cut back and there was nobody at the second level to catch him. I think Iowa was trying to pin LSU deep in their own territory. It backfired.

Slovis isn't a running QB, nor does he scramble much. Occasionally a roll-out. He has good eye for where he should be in the pocket, moves around well. Gets the ball out fast, deadly accurate, knows when he has a little more time to make the play.
USC's offense is RPO, almost exclusively out of pistol formation. Spread offense usually 10 or 11 formation. Typically a single running back who will line up to either side of the QB or sometimes behind the QB in traditional pistol set. The hand-off is well disguised with the RB often cutting in front of the QB to mask the exchange. That keeps the opposing defense guessing. Running plays are standard inside & outside zone, the running back looking to make a single cut to get up-field.
Lots of combo-blocking rather than rely on brute strength gap blocking. Will often run-block on pass plays and pass-block on run plays in the run-play-option to deceive.
Running the RPO out of pistol formation allows the quarterback a very straight forward way to quickly get rid of the ball, and see the field the entire time. QB doesn't have to mess around with an exchange from center and turn his back to the play.

ESPN College Game Day crew at the Army/Navy game...all four picked USC to win. I don't think that former Michigan midget Desmond Howard has picked Iowa once this year. He must still be bitter about losing to the Hawks in 1990 on their Homecoming game.

If I understand this right, USC doesn't do full contact practices during the season. I know there are a few places at the division II & III level that have gotten by not doing full contact practices but how do you keep skills sharp without doing a fair amount of full contact.

You should delete your account after being this wrong. What a complete fail! Then you double down after the game by saying USC was a weak opponent. I couldn't imagine being this wrong on everything and still be able to come back here and post pretending to be a Hawkeye fan.
