USC will be a challenge

Slovis is deadly accurate. He is getting 3-4 seconds to pass the ball too. Way too long. I don't know if that is USC's offensive line or opposing defenses. Need to get to this guy in under 3 seconds on a regular basis or it's over.

seems like we faced on already in Purdy Mouth.

I'm curious if this will be one of the games where KF allows the offense to loosen up (much like the OSU game), or if he comes out and treats it like 99.9999% of Iowa games. Run on first down, run on second, pass one yard short of the sticks, punt.
I'm sure the coaches will know that we'll need to put up a lot of points to win this game. It won't be the same gameplan as Northwestern. The question is can they actually do it?

How mobile is their QB, will the dline play to contain him or will we be able to rush him a bit?

yup, along with a whole bunch of NFL teams.

In all fairness McCaffery might have been the most dynamic player outside of Reggie Bush that I have seen in my lifetime. It was a terrible match-up for Iowa but also Stanford was really good and in my opinion could have played with anybody that year.

Thanks for posting. Watching the game against ASU I heard them say the usc running back is a track speedster and usc had 300 yards passing in the first qtr.

I see a lot of their pass plays they send the running back out to the side as a safety throw for the qb. Going to have to close on them fast if they catch it.

But asu must have shut them down pretty well as usc only scored 3 pts the last over half the game. That speed is going to be tough to defend. Arizona St wasnt a great team record wise but a tough team as I think they beat Oregona at
ASU has a really good defense their Oline was the problem all year.

You mean they seemed unprepared for McCaffrey's speed. It didn't help that our safety was banged up.

Agreed. Then again when your safety is the issue having to tack rbs....problem. outside of OU in the day havent really seen many run wild like that. Good.. for sure. Not prepared.... For darn sure.

Did you take an alaskan cruise during the last swing out west a few yrs ago? They made iowa look like a bunch of snowmen. If usc gets the ball out quick in space, it could be another reality check. If it gets into a high scoring shootout, iowa fails miserably. If usc plays it straight up, Iowa has a chance in a tug of war as that’s kirks style. Thinking we have a speed advantage is laughable

A few years ago...that would summarize your post very nicely.

He doesn't seem like a huge threat to run, but does get rid of the ball quickly, to all levels. Like most quarterbacks, be is most vulnerable to the inside rush.

Nice, we should be able to bring some pressure then without a lot of fear that he'll run all over us.

I havent seen much of USC but I bet their receivers havent been hit like our lbkrs and dbacks will hit.

If Helton didnt get a contract extension then he is still coaching for his job.
I don't exactly recall our linebackers or defensive backs crushing people this year. I recall them getting mauled by Taylor, and subpar tackling in a majority of our games. USC will be by far the most athletic team we have seen this year, and having the 5th ranked passing offense surely will challenge our pass defense. Not sure where the confidence is coming from that we will beat them. Teams don't need much for a defense to stop our high powered offense either, so should be a good game.

I will wait patiently for the evidence that Iowa will be amazed at USC’s speed. Iowa is very fast.
You're delusional. You're not seriously going to argue that Iowa is even close to USC in team speed. Wait, yeah, you would make that argument.

Iowa's defense is a big beneficiary of marginal QB play in the Big Ten and bad weather that dictates scheme to some degree. I never like playing teams with good QBs in bowl games. I think that kid from Mizzou is the only really good QB we beat in a bowl game in the recent past and even that year, we gave up a lot of points but we got lucky that year because Chief Keefe was still calling the offense and the defense had some splash plays. I recall the first time Ferentz played LSU (when Nick was there) they had JaMarcus, but he was a freshman and only played in the second half after Chief Keefe gave us a huge halftime lead, but I thought JaMarcus lit the scoreboard up a bit, too.

Yeah that Jonathan Taylor is such a scrub.

You never have confidence in us beating anybody.

Maybe our linebackers and defensive backs didn't crush people to your liking, but they kept teams out of end zones.

Now if you want to bring up our history against West coast teams in bowl games that's a different story. But you would have difficulty projecting a win against the Washington Generals.

Um...we were up 14-12 at half against LSU.
