Updated Bubble Watch

Maybe you don't get it...I don't remember VCU playing in a power conference, crapping the bed going into the tournament. Why don't you give me a list of teams that make the second week who were sliding as bad as we were going into the tournament and lost first round in their conference tourney. Didn't think so. Maybe Iowa surprises us all but the trend suggests otherwise.

Funny thing about trends, sometimes they can reverse, especially in sports. Not saying we'll see the Hawks from earlier in the year, or that they won't lose. But I'll choose to watch, cheer, hope, probably curse....and who knows.

Confidence is low on the team, in the fan base, and in the media for the Hawks, with good cause.

I have Black and Gold color glasses, Gulp the koolaid, really like Fran, and am an apologist for all things Hawkeye sports.

VCU did crap the bed going into the tournament. They went 3-5 against very weak competition before the NCAA tourney almost costing them a tourney bid. Then caught fire with their new life and went to final four.

Updated for today. Not much has changed as far as the bubble teams, except Lunardi has added NC State into the second 4 out. Huge game for them against Duke today (2pm Central - ESPN), should be fun to watch. Of the other bubble teams still playing today, both Lunardi and Palm already have them making the tourney as at-large teams.

I guess if you wanted to root strictly "for Iowa" today, you should probably root for Florida over Tennessee, Duke over NC State, and Creighton over Providence. Again I'll stress that it doesn't matter at this point, as Iowa is going to make the tournament.

Other notes:
No real surprise but its not looking good for the Gophers. Both experts still have Minnesota in the "first four out" and the teams they have listed ahead of the Gophers really can't move too much further down. Maybe the committee will disagree?

Do you really think Iowa can't beat an opponent like St Louis or Gonzaga in their first game? Iowa would probably even be favored to win both of those games...right or wrong.

The second game would be a different story, probably a team like Kansas, Duke, or Louisville. No, Iowa probably wouldn't win that game, but if they did it certainly wouldn't be a "world shocker" like VCU over Kansas in '11 or Florida Gulf Coast over Georgetown last year.

You can choose to live in your little fart of negativity, or appreciate the fact that Iowa finally made the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2006.

Isnt VCU in the A10 with st bon and st joes???? Isnt the championship game tomorrow?

Yes sir you are correct, I realized that after the game was over and they showed the bracket. St Bon lost today so I guess it doesn't really matter now, but St Joes plays in the championship game tomorrow against the winner of VCU/G Washington.

VCU was 5-5 in their last 10 games before their conference tourney. They made it to the Championship game of their conference tourney, upsetting the number 25 team in the country to get there. I don't see how you can make a ridiculous comparison between them and us. Good try though.

Oh, and after their conference tourney they had 23 wins.

That's great, if we make the tourney that's awesome. But the way this team has done it has left a pretty bad taste in everyone's mouth. It's kind of like knowing you get to bang the hot cheerleader in school but then realizing you are standing in a line of 50 dudes that get to go before you. Kind of takes the magic out of it...but, I am sure you're the kind of guy that wouldn't mind that. To each their own.

Of course the end of the season has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. But, the program REALLY needs to make the tourney for recruiting and for the future of the program.
As Hawkeye fans we should be desperately hoping they get in.

Don't worry we are hoping. Do you think anyone is looking forward to a home game in the ol NIT in an empty CHA?

Georgia, St. Bonnie, and NC State losing certainly helped Iowa in a big way. I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic.

For good measure, Providence can just go ahead and lose as well. Louisiana Tech lost in the C-USA final, but might still be in - can't imagine their resume is better than Iowa's though. Michigan winning the B1G title game and Iowa State winning today would help our RPI. I see some sentiment for NC State because of their win over Syracuse - not sure if their resume is remotely better than Iowa's - just too close for comfort.

Er - suddenly Syracuse has more bad losses than Iowa. And their season is tanking as bad or worse than ours has been (yes, I know, they had a much better record when it started). So a win over them isn't as great as it once may have been. Otherwise, heck put Georgia Tech and Boston College on the bubble.

But I do agree - nobody around Iowa helped their cause in their conference tournaments either. It will help us.

I'll say it again - our name will be called tomorrow night on the NCAA selection show.

I agree Iowa "will" make the tourney...I just don't think they "deserve" to...even if they suddenly regain form and win a couple. Although that would make me VERY happy.

RPI down to 63, but compared to resume's of other at large teams "in the area" - not sure if that's something to really worry about.

But still. 63 - yikes. NC State = 50s and stronger non conf sos. This sucks. I can't imagine we are left out, but this still sucks.

20 wins don't matter? It's a very Long season and you will have Peaks and Valley's. To say they don't deserve a Bid is pretty incredible that people think that. Is Iowa struggling you damn straight they are but they deserve a BID...

Who remembers how bad it got for Wisconsin. :) Now look at them.
