UNI players ready to take on Hawkeyes

The general consensus is that Iowa will win 8-10 games this year and people are psyching themselves out over UNI? yikes. Gonna be a long year for some. If you truly think Iowa is capable of a B1G title then relax and trust that they will have no problem with a team from a different level of football. 4 days!

I watched that uni back in the 2012 game that's enough for me to know. He was not bad, but he was not good enough to be a #1 back at Iowa.

When he was a sophomore? Maybe not. Now? The guy is projected to go in the 3-4 rounds of the draft. He's got size, power, speed, and hands out of the backfield. Iowa doesn't have a better back.

MW was a sophomore too at the time and doubled his performance even though he was not running the ball the entire game, and that was his first game at the position. It is not even close. That other guy did not get a scholarship offer for a reason, and that is that the coaches know he is not a big 10 caliber back. MW came out of high-school as a fullback. Iowa gives fewer scholarships at that position and they had a good fb at the time. Had MW been a RB at the time it would have been a different story.

It's going to be a tough opening game that most of us expect Iowa to win. If Iowa loses, almost every other game on the schedule is in doubt.

You do realize that the production levels can't be directly compared, right? Since Johnson was running with an FCS offensive line vs. a decent B10 defense and Weisman was running with a good B10 offensive line vs. an FCS defensive line and all...

**Edit - I should add that he rushed for 77 yards on 16 carries and caught 6 balls for 77 yards in the 2012 game, accounting for 154 total yards. Farley acknowledged afterwards that they should have stayed with the run longer, as he felt UNI was moving the LOS.

Weisman was also running against UNI's defense and behind Iowa's line. But those wouldn't have any impact on a running back's performance (oh, wait). Weisman didn't have an offer from Iowa out of high school; coaches must not have thought he could be a B1G-caliber tailback. Even after they'd had him on campus, his success came as a surprise and if Bullock hadn't gotten hurt, he might never have gotten a chance at all. If the coaches can nearly miss out on a hidden gem that's already on the roster, it's definitely possible for them to miss a hidden gem coming out of high school, which Johnson has definitely turned out to be.

It’ll be one of those dominate them physically for 4 quarters but only win by 10 type games.

I hope we are not in for a classic KF vs inferior opponent game.

The kind where the opponents load the box and beg Iowa to throw over the top but as soon as KF is up by 7 he will want to run the ball right at them.

I still don't think highly of that overrated division 1aa back. He has not even played in a game that matters in 2 years. If he was all that he would have transferred to a bcs school. I see that most of the people posting in this thread are uni fans, so get ready to have your guy, whomever he is, be planted by LTP, Carl Davis and company.

I'm an Iowa fan, and why is it so hard to admit that UNI has a better running back than we do? Johnson is good, plain and simple. He's had big games against teams from FBS schools. He had 159 total yards against Iowa the last time we played. Against Wisconsin in 2012, he had 107 yards receiving and two touchdowns (only 18 yards rushing). He had a far better game against ISU last year than did Weisman (240 total yards nad 4 TD's for Johnson, 145 and non TD's for Weisman).

It doesn't mean UNI is better than Iowa (they aren't). But they do have a better player at RB (and likely a few other positions too). Why can't we be happy with the guy(s) we have running the ball. Who knows what Johnson's reasons are for staying, but guys go from FCS all the time to good NFL careers. It really doesn't matter where you play, if you can play the NFL will find you.

Not only is Weisman a better back but Daniels will be before his career is over. Shonn Greene was also a much better running back. I wil stick with stick with that. Also uni will get smashed no matter wo runs the ball for them. I have not heard anything about whomever that rb is for uni, and now all the uni fans are trolling the forums trying to say that he is better when he is not. Good players lead their teams to victory, and Iowa won that game not uni.

I am a die hard Iowa fan. And it's fans like you that have the blinders on and only think Iowa players are any good blow my mind. I have no qualms about giving other good players their due. There are a lot of other good players out there and UNI and the FCS level have some pretty good players too. Your ignorance as to not knowing him should disqualify your opinion thinking Weisman and Daniels are better. You just admitted you didn't know who Johnson is. Iowa did offer Johnson out of HS a grey shirt. UNI normally doesn't offer full rides to instate kids but they did him so he took that instead. Here is a highlight video of him. Remember this kid is 6'3 230. He's physically similar to an Eddie George type of runner. Johnson is pretty much as big as Weisman, as fast as Canzeri and has hands as good as Bullock... If you think Weisman or any current Iowa back is capable of the first run he makes on this then your living in a video game world....

I think the long TD run against NDSU is even more impressive. Great burst.

From early NFL draft projections from CBSSports, Johnson is the 11th ranked RB (with a 3rd to 4th round projection, similar to Shonn Greene). Aaron Wimbley from ISU is the 58th ranked RB. Weisman did not make the list (74 backs listed, I believe they only ranked seniors and juniors with a chance to leave early). I love me some Weisman, no one I would rather watch run. But by any calculation (eye test, production, NFL evaluation), David Johnson is really, really good.

I'm with you. It's by no means bashing Weisman to say Johnson is better. It's calling a spade a spade. For as big and strong as Johnson is his agility balance and speed are off the charts. Throw in the fact that he can catch and they use him that way alot too... If he goes on to have a monster year and say tears it up in Indy for the that draft evaluation it wouldn't shock me if he's the first RB taken. Those smaller guys aren't as in demand as guys that can do it all. Long ways to go till then but this Johnson kid could be the starting RB on any D1 team in the country and do serious damage.

What worries me about Iowa playing against him is when they zone read and get him on the edge. He can run through any of Iowas dbs if he gets to the outside and past the 2nd level. He don't go down on first contact hardly ever. Thats what will test Iowas DEs and outside LBs to really get from point A to B stay in their gaps and for the love of god make the tackle when they get to him.

I don't care about that guy one bit outside of seeing the Iowa smashing him. Then after Saturday he will be irrelevant to me once again.

Ok well it's one thing to say that. It's totally another to say this "Not only is Weisman a better back but Daniels will be before his career is over. Shonn Greene was also a much better running back. I will stick with stick with that" When you admit you didn't know what you were talking about as far as who you were comparing them to..... I assume you saw some of his highlight tape? Greene only had the one good year. Greene isn't that fast and he can't catch he never could. Daniels we just don't know yet. He hasn't played much to be fair to him. Johnson has been at it awhile. If you think Weisman could make just about any of the same runs on there Johnson did your just delusional. I hate calling you out but dude you set yourself up with your ignorance. Just wish there were more level headed fans that can objectively see what their eyes are looking at.

I don't care, I will continue to support the players on my tean and I don't like people knocking them. unless something very weird happens Iowa will win this game!

So take your efforts elsewhere where people are knocking players or you can save some of your energy for the first loss. You'll have your hands full keeping up at that time.
