Uhhh.....Clowns?

Welp, there goes any chance of getting Gameday in Ames. Little brother ruins everything again.

AJE is going to tear them apart. Their line couldn't block UNI.

Just ISU things

On Cyfan,

Only Iowa State could have pulled that game out. Any other power 5 loses that game...UNI was bringing it, Farley worked on the defensive game plan all summer, it's their Super Bowl, and UNI was getting every call. Purdy's fumble, horrible call, TD catch in OT, drop...how do we get screwed on our own field.

Thank god we won...and the playoff shot is still alive.

LOL.

Ugh on many offenses on the first games. I hope Iowa doesn’t look bad this first game.

You mean to tell me a team that

A) Had a terrible OL last year and brought those same guys back
B) Lost an athletic freak at WR they relied on with 50/50 balls
C) Lost possibly the most talented RB in school history
D) is Iowa State

Isn't that good? shocking
You might want to wait to see if we can knock off mighty miami before you puff your chest too much

Spoken like a true clown. You’ll get yours right in the mouth in a couple weeks. Get ready

Was AJE on the field in first half?

When you practice all spring and summer for one team and open against another, these things will happen. Fortunately for them, they happen to have a bye next week, totally by chance, to work out the kinks before their next game.

I don't think reality could be more opposite from this post but okay.

Moved the ball well and run defense was good but too many drive killing mistakes. Found a way to win and they go and fix mistakes. We'll see how the rest of the season goes.

I remember another team that needed two blocked field goals to beat a pesky UNI team and that team went on to have a great season. College football is crazy. Who knows what will happen.

Not a Clown fan but Rocky, Dexter, and Duane might disagree with you

Trying to be as objective as possible, as an ISU fan.

The good-

We had a couple of promising drives slayed by penalties at the worst time. We had two plays into the red zone called back, and turned potential touchdowns into field goals. We statistically dominated and if we clean up shooting ourselves in the foot, the game would not have been in doubt.

While the penalties were untimely, we were good on the sort of penalties I would blame on coaching/preparation/discipline. No false starts. No motion penalties. Ok, one stupid 12 men in the huddle.

While we didn't have a single dominant running back, we had good production from all of them, which points to the O line doing it's job.

The defense was stellar. the UNI run game was essentially a non factor. Uni, especially late in the game, was bailed out by McElvain's elusiveness and creativity. UNI had one offensive touchdown, in OT so they didn't have to drive the field, had to convert a 4th down, and needed crazy plays from McElvain.

The bad-

Offense didn't produce. Penalties or not, we needed more from them.

We missed Butler and Montgomery very very badly. We had a serious lack of explosive plays. We didn't take deep shots. Maybe by design with it being the first game. Maybe due to WR's not making the plays to get open.

Pass blocking was... questionable, I suppose? Not awful, but not great. We sometimes had issues picking up the blitz.

Purdy felt a little hesitant to either throw or run at times. Maybe due to missing Butler and WRs not getting themselves open. He seemed more effective outside the pocket last year, but sometimes scrambled too early. I understand they're trying to coach him to stay in the pocket longer.

Kicking hicuup, again. Make all the field goals and the game doesn't go to OT.

The I Don't Know, Overall

We obviously looked far from convincing, and undeserving of the top 25 ranking. As with basically every first game of the season, it's hard to say if we're worse than advertised or if UNI played out of their minds/is teriffic or some combination thereof.

I will say that UNI is a consistently good team and tough game, both for us and for you. I hope we were finding our groove, figuring out life without Butler & Montgomery, playing conservatively, etc.

As a rule, I try to avoid emotions like optimism and hope when it comes to ISU. It makes the inevitable kick in the balls easier to stomach. I'm glad we have a bye for plenty of time to prepare and tinker. I'm not looking forward to playing you guys. I can't imagine I will ever in my life feel confident about it.

I'm trying to engage with you all in good faith. I don't enjoy just posting in a Clone friendly echo chamber, I like the discourse in debating with people who don't agree with me. Feel free to unleash your insults and calls for me to go back to my own messages boards, etc

Our performance in the first half does not negate ISU's suckage.

Sorry your poor little soupy boy still has no OL.
My poor? Lol. Hardly. I hate to break it to you but not everyone had a kirk pin up poster in their buena vista dorm room like you. Admit it. You were one of those small town Iowa boys that baled hay in the summertime but dad let you away just long enough to attend Iowa football camp with a couple 5.2 in the 40 skill position buddies. You came back so wide eyed that you dreamed you’d be a hogeye someday! You started getting chain letters in the mail (because you were on their mailing list) and you thought for sure that day was coming. When you were named all corn cob conference honorable mention at lb (5-9 235 lbs) you were really confident the call was coming. But you told everyone at BV during your first drunken weekend that iowa was all over you your sr year. If hodge and greenway didn’t commit, you were next. And another lifelong fan is born

I think you will spend a couple weeks here and return to the echo chamber. All boards have morons...we had a QB with a 173 QB rating, 21-30 with three throw aways, 250 yards with 3 TDs and he's being lambasted for "empty stats" and over/under throwing receivers. Good luck with that element of our fan base.

Honestly...your assessment was pretty much right on of the ISU performance against UNI. It's clear Montgomery is a huge loss. It's the stuff like keeping drives alive that people forget. Butler and Montgomery did that for ISU. It allowed them to possess the ball longer, and get more opportunities at making big plays. That was sorely missing last week with ISU. You just don't replace those guys...like an Akrum Wadley with Iowa. We had no big plays or field position changers in the running game last year...or very few. That hurts in big games.

Lol you are mad at something.
