Tyler Cook Pulls Name Out of NBA Draft, Returning to Iowa

It's great to be a Hawkeye. This is awesome news. I was never an 'addition by subtraction' guy in regards to him. Hope the fan base lets him know how happy we are to have him coming back.

Like Rob letting him know he was part of the problem with turnovers and poor defense in his "welcome back". Geez...he knows his weaknesses by now. I really like his offensive game...and if he improves like he did last year...he's a killer down low and going to the basket. Dude is physical.

Folks, Cook requires a double-team. I now can see Garza having a monster year and, in turn, Nunge can grow. Imagine a front line of Cook, Garza and Nunge. Next season can now be a NCAA season. the players need to commit to defense and we could have a really good season.

Well Rob is media he's paid to express opinions and analyze. I'm a fan that's glad he's coming back. I know he's not perfect if he was he wouldn't came back for his sophomore year let alone next yr. Cook is a big boy he's had plenty of others tell him similar things Rob has wrote about him as well just as if not more specifically and bluntly. It's a part of why he's coming back I'm sure. Which is fine by me. Because if I'm Cook I hope he's got the mindset he should be a 20/10 guy. There are players way less physically gifted than him that have done it and will. If I'm Cook I sit down with Fran and the coaches and say look I'm giving you everything I got. Help me reach my potential and this team will have one heck of a season if that happens.

Starting 5?

Cook
Garza
Nunge
Moss
J-Bo
Nunge will get some mins at the 3 but hopefully not starting level amounts of it... He seemed aways off from being ready for that if he ever will be. For now he's a stretch 4. And hopefully a dang good one. I think we'll see some of that lineup on the floor but I think we'll see way more Baer and Weiskamp at that 3 spot maybe even Dailey depending on how the 2 guard rotation goes with Moss, CM and JBo.

So, are there questions about Pemsl returning now?
Between Cook Nunge and Pemsl that 4 spot is as jammed up as it was last year somethings gotta give. For Nunge to grow it'd be at Pemsls expense... You could even throw Kreiner in this discussion although he sorta plays the 5 spot some. I dunno if this is just me but I'd rather see more Nunge or Kreiner instead of Pemsl. I think Pemsl has such a low ceiling... I like the kid he's an Iowa tough guy through and through. But he's caught up in a log jam of being sandwiched between a stud in Cook and a longer kid with more potential in Nunge… There's just not enough mins to make everyone happy.

Nunge played 15 mins a game last yr. Some of it out of position at the 3. And was our 2nd leading shot blocker... He'll deserve more time than that. How much more I'm not sure but he can't get a second more if Pemsl is still there...

This is great for the team. With Jordan, Cook and Garza, we have 3 legit 20 points a night guys. If you lay off Jordan he can light you up, you double Cook and Garza will get 20, and obviously Cook can put up 20 any given night as well.

Now if the team focuses on D, they have a real shot of being good this year.

With good defense they should be ncaa tournament bound.
