Trump supporters, how do you square this?

I would counter that "completely unreasonable" is a matter of individual perception.

If a bill to say, cap prescription drug prices included add-on language that offered tax loopholes to pharma companies and still passed a hypothetical 50/50 congress, that add-on language can't be considered unreasonable because:

1) Both sides voted for it to pass, and

2) It must have been reasonable enough that the opposing side thought what they got in return (cap on drug prices) was worth the squeeze.

Obviously a 50/50 congress isn't the norm and sometimes control over the house/senate lines in one party's hands, but them's the breaks.

So add-ons might be unreasonable to you, but perfectly reasonable to another person, and even neutral to another. That's the art of the deal so to speak. But at the end of the day something got done and it's the thing no one in our government wants to work out nowadays.

Regarding the example you gave of

That's where the problem begins with politicians. They're more worried about assigning blame and gaslighting to make the other side look bad (GOP and dems both) than they are seeing things for the finished product. For every omelette you make you have to break a certain number of eggs. Yeah, we all want everyone to be in agreement, but it simply doesn't work that way. Never has, never will. But you still need to come to a compromise and live with it. Someone has to be the wolf and someone has to be the lamb in every situation in life. You just try to moderate it as much as possible and if both sides could see that, they'd be able to work together and say, "We'll take turns being the lamb." But stubbornness and pride don't let it happen anymore like it used to. These people would rather lose a mile than give an inch.

In my example above, one side wants caps on drug prices and to stick it to big pharma at the same time, and because they know they can't have both they stonewall instead of choosing one or the other. And we suffer because of it and nothing's ever done about the problem.
This seems like a situation where we damn near 100% agree with each other but still find ways to nitpick the way we are wording things.

So if Joe was worried about a crooked president blindly going after his family for revenge, why didn't he pardon Ashley? Seems like my kids would be the first people I would want to protect in that situation.

Time to let it go, Biden isn't President anymore.
You mean I should let it go or the government in power now should let it go? If you mean I should, then maybe you're right. If you mean the current government should, I think you're wrong. Since Biden didn't bother to pardon his daughter, I assume the pardons have nothing to do with keeping his innocent family members safe. I think by now it's pretty well know that the family members that did receive pardons are being accused of doing. That level of corruption is something that the current government should absolutely not let go.

Also Fauci's pardon goes back to 2014. That's the same year the US started getting involved with Ukraine and bio labs there. I assume that's just a coincidence tho.

Don't want to speak for @Hay Man but I read it as he's saying you should let it go. It's now time to complain non stop about everything Trump as if it haven't been done the past 4 years biden was president. Some are infatuated w/ everything the Trump says and does. Don't forget Trump is a modern day Hitler and going to destroy our democracy and take away our rights. Trump did just release his "militia" from prison and they're about to take over whatever Trump requests of them. Move away while you still have a chance.

The Fauci pardon is the one that rubs me the wrong way.

You need to let it go, not the government.

How about focusing on how renaming the Gulf of Mexico and removing the cap on prescription drugs will lower the cost of eggs and gas. Isn't that what he said he was going to do???

Also didn't he sign an executive order that restores freedom of speech and ending federal censorship, but the thinned skin baby wants an apology for what the Bishop said in a sermon??

Do you want to listen to all this same crap you complained about the past four years???

Both sides lie, both sides can tell the truth from time to time, but I want someone in charge that makes my life better and I haven't seen either side do that.

Also Citizens United was one of the worst things the "Supreme Court" has done to our country and it's caused corruption in the government the likes we've never seen.

We really need to stop this back & forth and hope things will get better, because it hasn't been great of late and I for one hope Trump proves me wrong.

Words of wisdom. But as fry has stated the back and forth adds hours of entertainment.

I kinda like the idea of the Gulf of America. I have serious doubts much can get done about inflation. But if it can, clearly it will take more than one day to see. Trump is like Fran when he talks. Everything is phenomenal. When I hear Fran talk that way, I don't think he's lying. I think he's exaggerating. Same with Trump. I think he intends to help with inflation and intends to end the money laundering operation in Ukraine. But saying day one is an exaggeration.

It's not just Trump that's Hitler. Did you see Elon!? He's not even hiding it!

I'm personally too tired and depressed about what's happening in our country right now to be too pugilistic about all of this, but I have a couple of questions for the group that don't necessarily have to be partisan (although they probably are):

1. What is the wisdom of pardoning violent criminals from the Capitol attack?
2. What is the wisdom of rescinding the cap on prescription drug prices? People already make choices between paying bills and their health. How does this help anyone but the companies?

Shout out to Hay Man for pointing out the terrible legacy of Citizens United, and the furtherance of corruption that it has supported.

Bezos, Musk, and Zuck aren't standing up there together at the inauguration because their moral values align with Trump, they are there because they are going to get even richer, and remove any reasonable barriers to their domination of our markets, the communication channels, and their access to power.

My concern here is that the new administration is going to undermine some of the functions of the agencies that they are entrusted to guide. The new head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Lee Zeldin, is pretty clear that he is going to do the opposite of what the actual mission of the Agency states. Instead of protecting the people and the environment, he says his job is to increase business success (particularly the petrol and auto industries). Tell me this makes any kind of sense.

It does, if you understand this is all quid pro quo and about money. I'm not sure why we want to turn all the reins over to billionaires. They have no interest in helping or protecting ordinary folk.

Feel free to respond, or not. I likely won't argue with anyone at this point. Just wanted to get a few thoughts out there.

Everyone would like inflation to be lower. If it doesn't decrease substantially, will you come here and say "well I guess he got it wrong"? Edit: Not saying you personally got it wrong, but Trump. It was one of his biggest campaign promises. Here's current data. It's not super high now and may continue on a downward trend that is already well underway. It's 2.9% now. Historically, the average inflation rate from 1914-2024 is 3.30%. So are you saying it's going under 2%? What's your prediction?

Trump has never admitted guilt to ANYTHING he's ever done wrong. By trying to pardon himself, that is admitting guilt of some kind, so I don't think his non personal pardon really does much at all. My two cents worth
I completely agree with this. If someone refuses to admit guilt of any kind then pardoning himself would be an admission of guilt and something he's too proud to do. Just my two cents, but he's got an "I'm above the law" persona and there's no point in pardoning himself because he's above the law and doesn't see a point.

I think the left's policies with energy hurt with regards to inflation. Trump says he will implement energy policies that will help with prices. Whether that means it will bring current prices down or just slow their normal rise is a good question. I also think a majority of the inflation was due to covid and has already mostly corrected. That said, the left's covid policies probably hurt worse than the right's would have too. But that's debatable.

So I guess to answer your question, I'm only slightly optimistic he will help with current prices so won't be surprised at all if the price of eggs don't come down. Even if they do, I won't give full credit to Trump because covid is getting further and further into the rearview mirror. I'm more concerned with things like wars, borders, and what looked very much like an America last agenda. If he fixes that, I'll be happy. If he fixes government corruption, I'll be extatic.

That one bothers me a lot too because I think there is at least a 50/50 shot covid was on purpose and/or the vaccines are a money making scam or worse. But pardoning select family members instead of all family members to me means they were doing some serious shit.
