I greatly appreciate this post. My parents were centrists (mom leaned left and dad leaned right). I grew up in central Iowa, and my family was very involved in the church. My parents always voted based on policies and values and they differed at times.
I have leaned left, but more centrist in recent years. I voted for some republicans in local elections this time around.
To me, this is not about left vs right. It's about people having character vs people without empathy. I think some of the folks who were elected with this round of MAGA seem to lack basic empathy towards other humans. To me, this is the essence of evil. I fear what our country is becoming, and how far we will slide.
Forget the incompetence issue (RFK didn't know how medicaid works when asked direct questions about it today). Think about the craven indifference to humanity that these folks display.
I'm shocked that folks who consider themselves to be Christian vote for MAGA folks, especially Trump.
I hope our democracy survives the first two years of this "administration" of chaos. These folks don't even know the constitution. The new press secretary said that she (and Trump) think that birthright citizenship is unconstitutional, even though it is enumerated in the 14th amendment of our Constitution!
As a proud veteran, father, and senior leader in an academic healthcare setting who focuses on caring for the disadvantaged (for 30 years), I hope we can right this ship, and stick together as a country. We don't need to hate our fellow Americans. Oh, and go hawks.
