I think the January 6th thing was treason and should’ve resulted in life sentences.

“Sending a country in the shitter” is not comparable to Hitler or the Reich.
This country is not lawless. Politicians are sometime lawless on both sides, but you don’t see the other side's lawlessness because you’re blinded by rage for the away team. What happened in Germany was lawlessness because the entire population played along. 175,000,000 democrats aren’t going to just play along my friend. Which is good.
What you’re doing when you say that bullshit is nothing short of the MAGA crowd yelling about the country becoming a communist state with gulags, banning religion, and all private property being seized if Harris were to have been elected. It’s exaggerative hyperbole. You’re quite literally the liberal version of MAGA and both of your sides are terrible for the country.
Don’t you get it dude? You’re doing the same thing to the country as the MAGAs because you can’t/won’t even consider a viewpoint other than your own and you refuse to understand that there’s a middle ground to everything. Your party preaches utmost tolerance, but only tolerance of people with the exact same views as yourself.
Jan 6th was treason and they deserve life in prison? Who deserves life in prison? Every single person who stepped foot in the capitol? A good number of people there were literally just trespassing while protesting. Tell me you don't think those people deserve life in prison just because some other people got violent. Is that really how it should work? If one person gets violent at a protest, then everyone there protesting is guilty of that crime?

Anyone who rushed and entered the capitol building in my opinion committed treason. They weren’t there to protest. Also in my opinion the penalty for treason should be life in prison which is worse than the death penalty. Don’t expect you to agree nor do I care if you agree.
It wasn’t simple trespassing and it wasn’t simple vandalism. Whether you (or anyone) agrees with the current administration or not, our governmental system is the foundation of this country and has been since 1776. That has to be sacred. If you’re going to declare war on it then you also assume the consequences if you lose. You don’t get to do that and afterwards go, “Oops, I didn’t mean to do that.” Rushing the Capitol with the goal and intent of an overthrow is declaring war on it.
You could give me all the reasons you want why it shouldn’t be and I wouldn’t change my mind.
Let’s also not act like you wouldn’t feel the opposite if it was liberals rushing the Capitol. There’s no weaker argument on the planet than having a double standard.

If you think people showed up to overthrow the United States Givernment without guns than you're even dumber than I thought. Which says a lot. And sorry, if a bunch of unarmed liberals rushed the capital and then left on their own after a couple hours I wouldn't think their goal was to overthrow the most powerful government in the history of the world. I would call them a bunch of idiots. And of course I'm not going to change your mind. Because even tho you preach to everyone else on here about open mindedness and meeting in the middle, you never have any intentions of doing that yourself.
You really see a difference in everyday life? I've got a neighbor with Biden Harris signs in his yard and we couldn't be friendlier to each other.

The closest I have seen to this divide was over the war in Viet Nam. (I was in my 20’s). That was pretty much over a single, burning (literally) issue. Public opinion won out and the war ended. Took a while. Nixon and Johnson were both targeted by the public. Bipartisan. This time, Trump Repubs and their mindless cult never gave an inch to bipartisanship. Hence. Where we are.
BTW. The charge that the brave soldiers were inhuman villains and were targets when they came home was almost entirely a lie spread by pro war leftovers.Isolated incidents did occur, sadly.
The other big lie from the media recently was the attack on the Dem’s failure to be seamless in the exit from a war that had gone on for decades. The media and a host of other critics should have taken a lesson from history and recognized that the VN war exit was a bloodbath for Americans and local citizens. Find some news clips from that one.
Anyone who marked our withdrawal from Afgan as a cluster does not know how lucky we were to get out with little resistance.
Since VN, we added to the list of sacrificial clusters with stupid ”wars” in the Middle East.
More American heroes gave their lives. Sure was good for the economy! And, I did love the smell of napalm in the morning!

As insurrections go, I have to agree with you. Usually weapons would be required other than flag poles, bats, etc.. During a riot, which I believe this was, people will do crazy shit that they would normally never do. I suppose if you were able to see the backgrounds of the 3000 or so people who thought it was their duty to show up there you would find lunatics, easily influenced whack jobs, loners, and maybe a few somewhat normal who made a really bad decision. Do they deserve life in prison? I don't think so. The harder the liberal media and some Democrats tried to make every Republican an insurrectionist if they supported Trump seems to have backfired.

Being a whack job, longer, or lunatic doesn’t make you innocent. Doing “crazy shit” that you normally wouldn’t do if not participating in a riot doesn’t make you innocent. And I’m not a liberal.
There's also enough evidence out now that they knew about the potential issue beforehand and did nothing to prevent it. So at best they allowed it to happen for political gain. At worst they provoked it to "get Trump".
But of all the shady shit about that day, perhaps the worst was how many capitol police have killed themselves since that day. That's damn near statistically impossible. Do people really believe that the violence in the capitol messed those cops up in the head so bad that their only way out was to kill themselves? Of all the info that needs to come out about that day, the info on those cops that committed suicide needs to be at the top of the list.
They could have done that too if they would have just remembered their darn guns. For such a well planned event I can't believe they all forgot the most important thing!
And what's with them all giving up so easily? They already got control of the building (while cops are seen on camera walking them through the halls peacefully). They already accomplished the hardest part. And then they just give up and leave peacefully? They were literally a few more fist fights away from Trump staying in power.

Oh I agree that they are guilty. No question some were violent and did damage. I suppose if they were guilty of treason or insurrection they would have been charged accordingly. They weren't. Some pleaded out to sedition which is violence against the government I think. Either way bad deal.
