Trouble in River City

Having grown up in SWI during the 70's on I am painfully aware of Nebraska's traditions. I can tell you Iowa is in trouble when Nebraska names Frost as coach Saturday. He will win at Nebraska and re-establish their program and identity. His first visit will to be announce his potential signing of young Mr. Duggan. He recruited him while in Florida...there is trouble folks. Frost is young and young players will want to play for one of the hottest names in football. They WILL start stealing players from Iowa. It pains me in the worst way to see this!

Dude! Rest your weary head! KF's running our ship so chill! We'll still be able to go 7-5 with Frost there. We still got Isu to beat on...oh wait Campbell. Well we can beat on NW...oh yeah lost that one. Well we got Purdue...oh yeah lost that one. Well after it plays out a few years and we have constant 5-7 seasons these 7-5 seasons will be a treat then so no worries!

I've always wanted to see a fark .gif of KF and staff driving along in the beverly hillbilly' car.. then Dantonio and Alverez pass him in sports cars

Fellow poor bastard who lives too close to Omaha here. He never played in the Big 10, and he has never been a head coach in the P5. Harbaugh hasn't exactly restored the order in Michigan yet. Nebraska has to play by a different set of rules now. Frost very well could turn out to be a great coach for them, but I think I'd be even more worried if they hired Bielema.

Time will tell. The move to the Big has hurt Nebraska recruiting reach south into Big 12 country, it just isn’t what it used to be..

Is Frost really going to get better athletes to Nebraska, has that really been the problem? Nebraska has brought in several good California athletes, that hasn't been their issue. It is being stout at the LOS that Nebraska has been awful at, ever since Suh left. Is Frost some sort of in the trenches guru? If not, I don't they are all of a sudden Wisconsin winning 10+ a year and the division every year.

The one thing that frost might do is restore some Husker pride. They might play hard for 4 quarters. They might get some of those redshirts back again. I agree in the assessment of his coaching abilities as far as x’s & o’s. UCF hasn’t beat anyone. But he’s a Husker, bleeds it. They won’t be an easy out anymore.

4-5 minus the three non conference patsies we schedule every year. ISU is on the rise and will return a seasoned team next year and take Iowa down. Our starting lines backer crew and backfield GONE....................everyone clear the way for our fabulous walk-on linebackers. I feel a 6-6 season a coming.

Hmmmmmmm I wonder what Jackson is going to do? Our last defensive back that returned actually hurt his stock by returning. SHOW ME THE NFL MONEY!!! Now that is a legit concern. Don’t be stupid Jackson it’s going to be a different world with those three linebackers gone as you will be busy chasing running backs in the secondary.

Frost might get Nebraska back to being 8/9 win program with an occasional run at the West division title but they will never be that dominate football program like they were in the 70s/80s/90s again.

This probably impacts Iowa State more than Iowa in terms of recruiting.

All he has to do is instill a fighting spirit, toughness and avoid turn overs and Nebraska will be right in it with Northwestern and Iowa for #2 in the B1G West. They'll be 8/9 win team on that alone

Really that is not a big leap at all - very doable.

Of course they expect more than that and more than that consistently.

I am not too sure about ISU returning a seasoned team next year. They have some returners but lose a fair amount of talent as well. I know Lazard and Murdock are gone at wide receiver and they aren't exactly sure who their QB is going to be. That QB will also have his blind side protected by a new LT as Campos is out. They also lose their starting and backup LG. On defense they lose a starter end in Wagonner, a starting DT in Trent, both safeties and their heart and soul of the D Joel Lanning at MLB. On special teams both punt returners Lazard and Ryen are gone as well as their punter Colin Downing and Place Kicker Garret Owens.

The job that Frost has in front of him to get that program just back to competitive football on a regular basis is HUGE. I think it's a great hire for Nebraska. I too live way too close to Omaha - work there every day. I absorb a lot of Husker talk. I think he will get things going for Nebraska.. but I don't think Iowa fans need to quake in boots until they dig out of a deep hole. I don't expect Nebraska to a be a TON better next season even if Bill Belicheck was coaching them.

He better build the line of scrimmage before anything. Those fronts on both sides are a long ways away. Iowa’s o line was a mash unit this year with 2 freshman and it looked like the varsity going against a pop warner team in the trenches.

Agree. Wait and see situation. There is soooo much that goes into a good coach or a coach having success. Many factors. He's going from a location in the prime of recruiting area, even though he may be getting the leftovers, to an area which is quite difficult to recruit to this day in age. Players are more than willing to go far away from home, and many flock south or to the coasts.

Not saying he won't succeed at recruiting at all, but that will be the most important for him. Well that and dealing with the Nebraska expectations and changing their culture a bit.
