Transcript: Kirk Ferentz Discusses Outback Bowl Loss

Game turned when Iowa couldn't score on the goal line. And then couldn't convert again in side the red zone. Once they got behind there was no way they were going to catch up against Florida because Iowa has zero threats at WR against a team like Florida. To win that game it was going to have to be like the Michigan game. Oh well. Hopefully they can find some WRs or guys greatly improve.

We've been waiting since since 2011 to find a capable WR. 2012 is when we brought in GDGD, and our offense went from average, to horrible.

We'll keep waiting as long as he's here.

^^^ This is why I chuckle when people say, "We need to fire GD so we can upgrade our OC."

While I agree with the stated goal . . . last time Kirk had a chance to upgrade at the OC position he hired GD.

Someone tell me they are not on par with names like USC and Michigan over that time span.
So I ran the numbers and here they are:
(Wins, Win%, Bowl wins, BCS/NY6 wins)

Wisky (128, .744, 6, 1)
Michigan (102, .622, 3, 1)
USC (130, .765, 8, 5)

For comparison:

Iowa (103, .620, 4, 1)
Ohio State (141, .834, 7, 6)
MSU (104, .623, 4, 2)
NW (90, .552, 2, 0)

I think Iowa could sit at the big boyz table if they really wanted it and hired a capable coach. I think Wisky is already at that table. I know Oregon is at the table and 20yrs ago they were farther from it than Iowa. MSU is on the cusp IMO.

How about him saying that they stunk it up. That their scheme didn't work, that while they felt leading up to the game they felt good about themselves, but once the whistle blew, it wasn't good enough and we failed to make the appropriate adjustments.

Instead he blames the players. Always.

Gameplan was good, we just didn't execute.

Saying that crap after every freaking loss is blaming the players. He's saying that the coaches came up with the right plan, but those darn players didn't run it correctly.

What 99% of us see is that the schemes are stale, predictable, and give our players next to no shot to succeed. Yes, occasionally we will win against a high ranked team 12-10....You know, real exciting football played at a high level. It feels like when we win, we win by accident. The other team comes out flat, not focused....and yet we still manage to keep it close to the end.

His brand of football is crap. We are lucky to play in a crap division, and a majority of the teams in the conference are crap too.

You say his brand of football is crap. Yet, he has a winning record in the B1G and a lot of other things on the positive side of the ledger that don't get mentioned by the anti-Kirk forces. If his brand of football is crap, I'd hate to think what the anti-Kirkers would think if we had the same results over the years as ISU, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, etc.

His brand of football could use some improvements but it isn't crap.

It's still crap.

Make no mistake, Wisky is at that table in the BIG over the past decade and a half. They are the blue blood of the BIG West and it ain't really even close at this point.

Agreed. Although, we had a very capable WR last year and woefully underused him.

I'd be ok with 8-5 records if we had a coach who did everything to win. KF doesn't have the desire to win big. He consistently underachieves when he has the talent to win big. KF should go back to being an o line coach. Let someone else make the big decisions.

Yes, having one month to prepare for a specific team and getting run out of the stadium in your past 5 bowl games is crap.

The first two losses to Oklahoma and LSU were competitive games. The first halves vs. Tennessee and Stanford and the second half vs. Florida were crap, yes.

But I don't think 20 wins the last two seasons is crap. How many other teams would like such crap?
