Transcript: Kirk Ferentz Discusses Outback Bowl Loss

How many times has Wisky been in the BIG championship game again? Yeah, that's what I thought. And how about you dig up KFs BIG record since he's come to Iowa. Pretty impressive to you I bet.
So the goal is most times in the big ten championship. Not national titles. Got it. So Wisconsin has a better record than Iowa in the past 18 years. So does Alabama. So does Ohio State. Your argument to get rid of a coach is....Wisconsin is a little better? Ok. I guess the rest of the big ten should give up and fire all of their coaches because osu is better? We just pick Wisconsin. Be better or you're gone. Ok. Logic.

When KF wins the Rose Bowl and goes to the college football playoff, let's talk. Until then, let's not compare Dantonio to KF or Iowa to Wisky -- they aren't comparable at the moment.
Fry won...so I need two hands to count...how many rose bowls? Ipso facto..FRY SUCKS lol right? YOU accept big ten title followed by 3 win season vs. beat in the last minute in big ten championship and 8 win season next. I guess some might. If the Hawks won last year only to be throttled by Alabama in the playoffs..then followed it up with 3 wins...no...sell you not losing your mind somewhere else.

Lol A 4th down last second stop away from doing just that? Woah...big fella...we were so far off. How could we begin to compare? Get real. Yea we didn't do it. You must have silently cheered

What does this have to do with anything? We're talking about Iowa, not Wisconsin. Apples and oranges my friend. Make a better argument.
Friend. What are you comparing Ferentz's failures to then? If you say all that matters is championships.....Fry won 3. Ferentz won 2. Ferentz has 2 years to 20. Stay tuned. He gonna be coachin' lol

You take out Iowa's 12 win season to compare the last 4 years. Umm. Really? So, the 90's Bulls didn't really dominate the NBA if you take away Michael Jordan. Right? 12-2 did happen. And 8-5 twice. And a DAMN fun 2015 that you missed because you were mad about KF winning. No joke.

They are not on par with names like USC. Michigan hasn't been all that great over the years.

Wisconsin seems to have an aggressive plan to win their bowl games...Iowa seems to not have a plan, at all.

The difference is pretty glaring...

It's well-documented that Wisconsin has had more success the past 15 years. You fire a guy because a program is better than his but still successful? I guess I get it, but it still comes down to what 1980's poet/musician/rock band Cinderella referenced when they penned the literary classic, "Don't know what you got, til its gone." Where will you be if new hire comes in and bombs? Notre Dame...Nebraska...USC...even those 5* filled programs suffered from bad hires. We won't be fishing in the same pond even. Hire a vibrant OC/head coach in waiting in 2 years, transition smoothly. No reason to throw away success, and it is success if you want to keep calling Fry a success (Rose Bowl blowout losses to Washington x2, UCLA, California), similar overall record.

BEfore the year started we all thought WI wasn't gonna do much because of their schedule.

And they still make it to a NYD6 Bowl

Iowa was favorite to win the West, and we lose to FCS school, NW (again), embarrassed by PSU, and embarrassed in our bowl game by a team who had nearly 20% of their roster injured.

WI has a system in place that is proven to put their team into conference championships and Elite Bowl games on a consistent basis.

MSU, minus this year, also has a similar system. We'll see if they rebound.

We have a system in place that gives us a elite bowl game once every 6 years, and we haven't even won our "bowl championship" in over 6 years.

It's our system. It's the programs attitude. It's our head coach.

What was Kirk supposed to say in the interview?

"Yeah, I didn't get it done. We were terrible and it was my fault."

"Our play-calling was awful. I am thinking about stepping down to please the fan base who is angry with me now."

"I never should have hired Greg Davis. He will be gone tomorrow because I know how unhappy the fan base is."

"The reason our passing game is so bad is because I haven't been able to recruit good receivers here. And that's on me."

I mean, the man has pride-just like all the other head coaches in football. He's not going to say things like that, even if there is a kernel of truth to some of them.

An honest assessment would be a good start. Good leaders constantly look or mistakes. The assessment part is good. If his heart isn't in it he would know and step down. You couldn't coach with a lot of pride and have the disappointments Iowa has had.

That would be a good start. He expects his players to be accountable, why shouldn't he?

"It is pretty obvious to me now, that the game has passed me by. The search for a new coach begins now. Blessings to all of you...I gone."

No one is disappointed about close losses in the bowls et. al....it is just that they have been embarrassing and noncompetitive. A joke, nationally. It is a trend, not an anomaly....55 passing yards, 11 total yards to one wide receiver, in a game you prepared for, for 4 weeks? It is astounding.

With a top ranked O-line and an experienced QB? Really? This is the best you can do coach?

Nobody is claiming that he's a perfect coach, including me. I wish he's liven up the offense, recruit better receivers, look for a new OC, and other stuff.

But the over-the-top, hysterical piling on of the man does get tiresome.

How about him saying that they stunk it up. That their scheme didn't work, that while they felt leading up to the game they felt good about themselves, but once the whistle blew, it wasn't good enough and we failed to make the appropriate adjustments.

Instead he blames the players. Always.

Gameplan was good, we just didn't execute.

Saying that crap after every freaking loss is blaming the players. He's saying that the coaches came up with the right plan, but those darn players didn't run it correctly.

What 99% of us see is that the schemes are stale, predictable, and give our players next to no shot to succeed. Yes, occasionally we will win against a high ranked team 12-10....You know, real exciting football played at a high level. It feels like when we win, we win by accident. The other team comes out flat, not focused....and yet we still manage to keep it close to the end.

His brand of football is crap. We are lucky to play in a crap division, and a majority of the teams in the conference are crap too.
