Tracking Iowa's RPI, KenPom, & Sagarin

We are better defensively than we were on Dec 4th. Would you agree with this statement? Would you agree with it if Kenpom stats showed that our adjust D rating is better now than it was on dec 4th?

Yes I think we are a little better defensively since the Omaha game. We've had some good defensive games and some very poor ones so I think it's not as greatly improved as others think.

Ok, so Kenpom pretty much proves you don't know what you are talking about. You said giving up 100 to Memphis = giving up 73 to Morth Dakota. WRONG! According to Kenpom our defensive eff. Was 131.7 vs Memphis (the worst of the year) and the defensive eff. Was 96.8 vs North Dakota. Not even close, not even on the same planet. You would have know this if you would have watched those games.

Iowa vs seton Hall = 111
Iowa vs Virginia = 124.5
Vs Memphis = 131.7
Vs Notre Dame = 125.8
Vs Nebraska Omaha = 126.7

Since that Nebraska Omaha game the D is significantly better.

Vs ISU = 88.5
Vs UNI = 70.3
Purdue = 113.4
Michigan = 117

So even the last two which weren't great were a damn sight better than the 4 in a row where we were getting rolled with defensive eff. Of 125 or higher.

This is all Kenpom, and you are a self proclaimed "disciple" of Kenpom.

96.8 vs Omaha
113.4 vs Purdue
117 vs 117

That's 3 of our 4 last 4 games. Ouch. What was our Stetson game? You should link that information, that is interesting to me.

All of them SIGNIFICANTLY better than 125+ we had given up to 4 straight opponents in Virginia, Memphis, ND and Nebraska Omaha.

You said Iowa hasn't improved their D since Dec 4th or "only slightly". Kenpom disagrees, and you say you are a Kenpom "disciple"??

We didn't give up 125+ to Virginia but it appears I was wrong about saying North Dakota was just as bad as Memphis. Are those numbers from when the games were played or where they are ranked now?

Remember when people thought our defense was improved against Notre Dame? Haha

Per game defensive efficiency:

Virginia = 124.5
Memphis = 131.7
Notre Dame = 125.8
Nebraska Omaha = 126.7

Dec 4th. Was the day after the Nebraska Omaha game and is when I said we started to play SIGNIFICATLY better D, and the Kenpom numbers back this up.

Stetson = 89.5
ISU = 88.5
UNI = 70.3
North Dakota = 96.8
Del. St. = 72.2
Purdue = 113.4
Michigan = 117.3

That is crazy good improvement. I mean not only significant, but rather even DRASTIC improvement. But by all means pick and choose the games/stats that put forth your silly false premise. Don't be ripping on others tho for not bowing down to Kenpom stats, when you are trying to make a claim when Kenpom stats clearly disputes your claim.

Our defense is definitely getting worse in conference from the second half of the non conference. I will admit after seeing that we had a stretch where we played 4 good defensive games out of 5 but 3 out of the last 4 games is still in my mind. I'm surprised UNI's is that low, I know we held them to like no points but they are one of the worst offensive teams in the country.

Are those numbers from when the games were played or where they are ranked now?

Those are the PER GAME defensive efficiency numbers. So that is the rating for that individual game.

Since you wanna parse this to conference games, let's take a look at Jordan Bohannon in conference games. You told us he would struggle in conference. Here are Jordan's ranking in the B1G for conference games played:

Offensive rating (152) #1
eFG% (59.4) #14
TS% (64.2) #8
ARate (34.7) #4
TORate (0) #1
2 pt FG% (71.4%) #4 I found this one very ironic.

That would make sense for a team like Memphis. They were in the 100's in AdjO when we played them but have really improved which is why I said what I said. I do think Bohannon will struggle this year in conference play.

Again...Our defense is clearly better IMO. All a person with a basketball IQ has to do is watch the games.

And I think JB may be the high end (potentially elite given time to develop) point guard many have been pining for since Fran arrived. We hoped Gesell would be that guy but it didn't happen. He was a good Hawkeye and contributed in many ways. But JB has far more upside and already has a higher basketball IQ IMO.

You must be making this stuff up as you go. jk

So Jordan Bohannon is #1 in offensive rating in the Big10 though two+ games? Nice.

Dean can you check on his offensive rating since becoming the starter against ND?

It was at the end of the non conference but it's been bad during conference play

And it has been much better than where we were at on Dec. 4th.

You really just make yourself look like a Clown who doesn't watch the games if you say any different.....Oh wait, that is what you are, so well yeah you got that going for ya.

I can't break it down from a certain date unfortunately. They have a total stats, and then conference game stats, so that is why I could list it that way.

I watch the games. People complained about defense after Seton Hall but then said our defense looked improved against Michigan when it was worse. Even you'd agree our defense in conference play has been bad

You said that our D wasn't any better or only "slightly" better than after the Dec 4th game when we had just had 4 games in a row of over 124.5 Def. Efficiency.

Do you think Kenpom stats are junk? That is the only way you can think you were right about your statement then. You can't just change the subject on me, won't work I am troll proof.

Oh, and I still complain about our D, it isn't good at all. It is a damned sight better than where it was at on Dec. 4th though. THat is what I always said, and you disagreed. Just admit you were wrong and we can move on as our D is way better over the last 7 games than it was over the first 8.

I wish it showed the defense efficiency of where they are now compared to when you played them. Like I said Memphis was considered a bad offensive team when we played them and have really improved. The numbers you provided seems to show I didn't give enough credit for the defensive improvement the back end of our non conference schedule

I'll take this as admission you were wrong......not that we didn't all already know this, it always just takes you awhile to catch up with the rest of us.
