Tracking 2014 Class Offers

I just looked. Of the 15 schools that have offered this guy 13 recruit better than us. OU, ND and O$U all want this cat.Correction Cincy and Northern Illinois have not offered this guy so we are the crappiest of all schools with offers.
He's a big fish, so we're not gonna get him, just like we don't get any big fish. This is the time of year when you go whale hunting and throw out a bunch of offers to kids that are gonna cross you off their list by the spring. Then we get down to concentrating on the nice, solid Midwestern 2 and 3*s that we know and love.

Between GH76 and H.I.M's posts it makes me want to commit suicide or protest use of this site. Man your guy's lives must suck something awful to be this pessimistic about everything.

We have gotten high star guys before and more than likely they don't pan out, but to say never that's incorrect. Your loudness about not lilking 3* guys is unwarranted, Iowa has always done better with these type of recruits. Not saying they don't want the big fish just typically Iowa develops talent.

Obviously Curk hasn't played NCAA Football on PS3. You gotta toss the full hour on your five stars to get early commits from the big boys!

Saying they do better with 3* guys is a dumb statement. They have more 3* guys succeed, but that's because they odds of getting a few to succeed are much greater when you start with more of them.

If you have 3 5* and 50 3* guys on a roster is it sure easy to say, yeah more 3* pan out because the odds are higher you will find a few.

Of Iowa's 5* (from scout) in the past 10 years:
OL Mike Jones (2003)- success
TE Tony Moeaki (2005)- huge success, best TE KF has ever had
OL Dace Richardson (2005)- success, even through injuries, probably would have been top 3 linemen of KF era if not injured all the time
OL Dan Doering (2005) flop

That is a 75% success rate. Yes I conside Dace a success as he would have been great without injury, and its not his or KF's fault for that.

What about 4* guys?:
2002:
OL Chris Felder (flop)
LB Ed Miles- (success)
QB Nathan Chandler (JC success)
K Kyle Schlicher (success)

2004:
CB Walner Belleus (JC, flop)

2005:
OL ryan bain (flop)
RB Kalvin Bailey (flop)
OL Raf. Eubanks (success)
DL Tyler Blum (flop injury)
DL Alex Kanellis (flop, injury ended career)
WR Trey Stross (maybe a flop, maybe a success, I say neutral here)
QB Jake the snake (flop)

2006:
DE Adrian Clayborn (success)
LB Jeremiha Hunter (success)
LB AJ Edds (success)
P Ryan Donahue (success)

2007:
CB Cedri Everson (flop)
OL Bryan Bulaga (success)
LB Tyler Nielsen (success)
S Jordan Bernstein (success)
DE Christian Ballard (success)

2009:
RB Brandon Wegher (flop)
WR Keenan Davis (success)

2010:
TE CJF (?)
OL Donnal (?)

2011:
DT Darian Cooper (?)
RB Rodney Coe (flop-but not KF's fault he couldn't get to campus)
Ol Jordan Walsh (?)

2012:
RB Greg Garmon (Flop)
DT Faith Ekakite (?)
DT Jaleel Johnson (?)

If you don't count 2010 and beyond, because we really don't know yet. That is 13/24. that is 54%. Would I like to see that higher, yes, but hey I gurantee if I did it for the 3* guys it would not be that high.

I agree. The point I was trying to make and you actually helped make it, was that Iowa does get the 4 and 5* kids. To say we never do is ridiculous. Maybe we haven't done better with 3* guys but this has and will be a developmental program. We don't even offer half the 4-5* guys that other schools do, I don't think we necessarily need to.

I think Iowa needs to get 4 and 5* guys. When you look at the teams for Iowa that were good, who were their best players, generally 4 and 5* guys made up a lot of that list. Well, the guys that actually stayed at Iowa. I agree Iowa needs to continue to develop players to be good, but they also need 4 and 5* guys to have better than average teams. Just look at this year, not a ton of 4 and 5* talent that wasn't freshman or RS fresh. Lots of 2 and 3* guys. need to have some special talents to help those guys shine.

Also, for Iowa to offer I think they need to have reciprocal interest from the recruit. We aren't Zook who just offers the top 150 based on that ranking even if the kid has never wanted to play there or never would even if he was paid to. You have to identify those that are actual possible targets and focus on them. Put in the time. I would love for Iowa to be in on every 5* recruit, but I'd rather they focus on a few and actually get 1.

I also think the recruiting culture at Iowa is changing a bit with BF and LW. I like where this is going to be honest.

Completely agree.

And make sure to stay in your pipeline states. It's hard to get 5 star players from other places.

Trey Stross was a 4*? Who the hell is Ed Miles?

A couple of updates:
-Rivals now lists an Iowa offer for DE Jack Wynne of Connecticut.
-247Sports now lists an Iowa offer for Chris Lacy from the Dallas area.

Edmond Miles played in the NFL for a few seasons, pal. He was a grade above Mike Humpal IIRC.

Mike Humpal played with Mike Klinkenborg, I don't want to down play their skill and talent but I believed that they just played well together, they played assignment football.
