Top 10 most under rated Hawkeye Bball players in history

LOL that is funny.

Val Barnes (all time
Jacob Jakes
James Winters
Kenyon Murray
Jeff Horner
Andre Woolridge
Jared Reiner
Devan Bawinkel
Kevin Smith
Erek Hanson

Each of these players in my opinion were under rated and or snubbed in season for the talent they had. I also based this on how they affected the team when playing. I could cycle some in and out but this was close to the first list I put together. Val Barnes is my top but is also one of my favorite players beside Jeff Moe that I thought should have more respect.

All of these players played within the last 20 years. It's tough to take this list seriously given the long history and tradition of our program.

Kevin Kunnert is the most underrated Hawkeye in history.

Honorable mention:

Chris Pervall
Glen Vidnovic
Val Barnes
Kent McCausland
James Moses
Gerry Jones

...also, I'm seeing a lot of Duez Henderson on here.

Are you guys serious? Duez was a good dude, and played hard, but he was not good. Glen Worley was better than Duez, and he's one of the most widely ridiculed (unfairly, by the way) Hawkeyes of the modern era. If Duez is on your list, then Glen should be too. Along with about 200 other guys who played hard but didn't do much to distinguish themselves.

Brig Tubbs and Seth Gorney? Really?!?! Just because you remember someone's name it doesn't mean they were underrated.

SMH.

Tubbs and Gorney were both good role players that never got their due. Gorney waited his turn, and played well when given the chance. Tubbs played well in limited minutes behind some of the best centers in Iowa history.

Jar'sean Sondereiner

You've gotta give Alford credit for one thing: he recruited some of the best names in Hawkeye history.

Chauncey Leslie
Pierre Pierce
Marcellus Sommerville
Brody Boyd
Carlton Reed

Maybe he thought he was the coach of a 17th century Yorkshire polo squad. It would explain those pleated bloomer pants he always wore. #lookingfoxysteve

I never actually put out any kind of list. Lester is the only name that I put out, and that's just going off of what I've been told about him. Doesn't sound like he got near enough credit for how good he was. I just said what other folks' reason was for putting Woolridge and Murray on their lists. Never said I did or didn't agree with it.

And for Christ's sake, it's a meaningless thread about underrated Iowa basketball players. No need to be an a**. I didn't kick your dog or anything.

Ronnie was anything BUT "overrated". To give you an idea, he suffered TWO serious knee injuries in the same season and was STILL an NBA 1st-round choice in a league that hadn't yet added Orlando, Vancouver, Toronto, Charlotte, etc. I believe Ronnie was selected #6 by Portland (?), then traded to the Bulls, who had selected Kelvin Ransey at #3.

Magic was right, Ronnie WAS the best player he faced in college, or at least until Magic and MSU played Bird and Indiana State in the 1979 Championship Game.

But the 1980 Final Four team was more than just Ronnie. However, when he went down against Louisville, it killed us, because it left us deficient in terms of both speed and depth.

Jeff Moe without. In no particular order

JR Koch
Russ Millard
Les Jepsen
Michael Payne
Brad Lohaus
Steve Waite
James Winters
Ryan Bowen

Sorry, but Michael Payne never lived up to the hype that followed him out of Quincy. Lohaus was a late-bloomer and became a hell of a player by the time he finished. Ditto Les Jepsen.
