My first BB thread-start Spoiler Alert!

Team plays hard, good kids and pieces, way short on bodies, depth and height to be competitive in this league.

I am ready for the next chapter of Iowa basketball.

Well we put up a fight. Nice to see Dix and Sandfort play as well as they did. We we're just undermanned against a team like that especially without Freeman. Offensively when we are on we can put points on the board. Yet sometimes we are our own worst enemy with capable FT shooters missing shots and our shot selection being bad.

Defensively we did pretty well for stretches I thought Mulvey really outplayed any expectations I had for him cause I just didn't have any. He didn't seem to have any mental mistakes out there he caused a few TOs on Smith and frustrated them with his length and ability to move his feet. So take that as a bright spot.

Purdue is solid. Stud PG stud center and role players that can go get offensive rebounds. That's all it takes to beat us even when we play relatively well offensively. We aren't good enough to overcome our deficiencies against good teams. I say Purdue is solid yet they only had like 6 pts from their bench. But that starting 5 is dang good and play well together

They call 18 fouls on the Hawks

13 fouls on Purdue

They were 18-23 on Free Throws

We were 10-16

They were 12-25 on threes

They won the rebound battle: 33-26

Onward and upward with Wisconsin coming to town

Damn

Remember back during the Murray and Garza days when we used to make more FTs then the opponents took? That's always a good recipe for winning games.

We shot almost 52% from the field and 38% from 3. Purdue made 1 more three then we did. We only turned it over 11 times. That's not great but for us that's close enough for us to be in games. We lost by 9. FTs and rebounding were the difference makers to me...

Was really impressed with Braden Smith. He was crossing dudes over and no one could stay in front of him. Thelwell and Dix are pretty good defenders and he was breaking their ankles. I thought BS was a solid point guard, but not this. I guess I wasn’t paying attention because his game took another step.

For the millionth time I am saying this…I like Fran and IMO, he coaches an entertaining brand of basketball. Do I wish the fan base would have embraced him more? Absolutely.

That being said, it is time to move on. I realize Goetz and Fran have to play the chess match in terms of the buyout money, but I do not care about that. Like you I am ready for the next chapter.
