Tom Moore

This guy sounds like the offensive counterpart of Norm.

Well, he's old, very experienced, and has seen just about everything football wise. Other than that, not so much in common. I doubt he would be running the Colts offense at Iowa if he was on the staff..

By that, do you mean Moore is going to teach Iowa the single wing offense?

Hey, if that offense in Denver can help Tebow maybe the single wing will help Iowa. I'm not sure how Vandy would fit in that offensive style...

How do you associate Moore with the single wing. He's 73 years old not 103.

Wrong. He turned 534 on February 7.

Tom Moore as QB coach/mentor and OC assistant would be awesome. He could assist a new OC like Soup to put together and manage a game plan.

And talk about going full circle as Moore's first coaching job was at Iowa 50 years ago. A tremendous resume and amount of success.

Old guys can coach in sports as long as they can still connect with players.

If Ferentz were able to lure Moore to be Iowa's OC it would absolutely be best case scenario for the future of our beloved Hawks. He would be a fantastic mentor for both Soup and Brian Ferentz (assuming he fills some role). I bet you college football analysts everywhere would give Coach Ferentz kudos for being able to attract Moore to Iowa. I can't imagine a better hire. He would immediately fit in with the staff and his demeanor/knowledge would instantly grab the players respect.

Only problem I could see is the possibility that Soup would be upset he didn't get the job. That could possibly be solved by either sharing the role or letting him know that he'll likely be the next OC when Moore retires in a couple years...

It's certainly possible that I'm getting my hopes up for nothing, but boy I would be thrilled if this actually happened.

Moore could be a great mentor to Campbell and Campbell could even have CO-OC title, who knows, KF can do what he wants. Moore I think could really improve the Iowa passing game. Maybe Soup would focus more on the running game.

Interesting possibilities. As I have said before, most of the last 8 NFL teams left standing were running a pro-style offense with a lead fullback on many plays. KF is not dumping that offense and Moore knows that style.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Soup just likes being a no name position coach, and doesn't want play calling duties or notoriety? I mean the guy has coached at Div 1 level as the same position coach for how many years? You think maybe he just wants to work for a guy who respects him, treats him well and in a good program?

Maybe I'm crazy, but no one has discussed that possibility.

If KF were to bring in Moore, I feel that there would be a fairly substantial shift in some aspects of Iowa's offense. Moore's offense in Indy may have been rooted in the pro-style, but it was more of a spread hybrid. I couldn't tell you what the ratio was, but Indy used a lot of 4 wide, single back sets. Additionally, they loved to flex the TE out.

I'm not saying that if Moore were to come in he would try to duplicate the Indy offense...there's only so many Peyton Mannings to go around. But I do think we would see more spread tendencies than we have in the past. And, personally, I don't think there's a way to avoid it any longer. Let's face it, every NFL team has incorporated some spread offense concepts into their scheme. It's the way the game has gone and it's here to stay. Get your most explosive players the ball in space and give them a chance to create. It doesn't have to be the primary focus of the offense, but there's little doubt that Iowa could use a dose of that.

And IF Moore were to be hired I think it completely destroys the oft spouted theory that KF is going to bring in someone willing to stick with the same old, same old. I can't imagine that someone with Tom Moore's credentials, history and track record would be brought in just to "maintain". Even moreso, I can't imagine someone with such a resume being WILLING to step into such a situation.

Finally, if Moore does end up at Iowa...HUGE props to the coach for even thinking to test those waters. I don't believe there was anyone who would have envisioned that scenario when Okeefe left.

It would be a great move. Tom Moore is an offensive guru. Age is meaningless when a guy was getting it done on the highest level as recently as a couple of years ago.

That would be a huge score for us to get Tom Moore, I'm just skeptical someone is posting wild rumors that are unsubstantiated

This.
And if he really has been in Iowa City a lot, my first guess would be KF is asking him to help eveluate the next OC, or the offense in general. If Moore did join the staff, I imagine he would have a role of Assistant head coach. I still think Campbell will ultimately be the OC.

But having Moore help us update the offense would be very exciting, I really hope these wild rumors have some legs.

Golfer, have you heard anything about Moore being in IC?

Dude, this is the internet. You can take it to the bank. ;)

Stoops is coming to Iowa right. I was assured on the internet this was happening....oh wait no, I'm certain it's that LB coach from the Giants...wait, what, neither are coming??? But Twitter and HN said...???

Despite my sarcasm, enough reliable people have said this is going to happen, that I'm actually starting to fall for it.
