Time to Kick Penn St out of the league....

I do not expect Iowa to be perfect, nor the players, students, ect ect. Bad things do happen whether we know about them all or not. But the scandal at Penn State belongs in its own place of wrong, I kinda feel like the OP as it is embarrassing to even have them associated with the conference. But to hear everything that has happened, to see the students reaction, how former players have reacted, basically the state of Pennslyvania react to it has really made me sick. The way people defend Paterno like he did not know what was going on and that he is the face of the program, is sad. He knew of Sandusky's problem, it is why he was forced to "retire". He seen the boys hanging around with him before games and at bowl games, he admitted himself he should have done more to stop it. I cannot begin to imagine how people can somehow justify this in their minds and still look up to the man and idolize him. Say what you want about the PP situation but at least Iowa students made a stand and said what he did was unacceptable. They went as far as to boycott basketball games because of it. The students at Penn State were gathering in support of Paterno.

The whole thing is sad.

This I do agree with......

This is a little bit of a tangent, but if Sandusky is convicted, will he have any type of isolated confinement or protection to keep him from other prisoners? Even if he does, I assume certain opportunities for access might eventually be given to other prisoners over the years.

I guess what I am getting at is this. Assuming the mountain of evidence Sandusky likely knew was out there against him, and realizing he will likely be raped/killed in prison at some point himself, how did the guy stick around all these months and not either a). try a desperate attempt to flee to some obscure country, or, more likely b). drink a gallon of whiskey and eat a bucket of sleeping pills one night.

I guess he is rolling the dice that one juror will get hung up on something and not be able to convict?

wondered similar thing myself, and what the heck his wife thinks.

Yeah my mind wanders to places like this sometimes too….I wish it wouldn’t but it seems to wander any and everywhere at times..... The thing I keep coming back to is this…..it really seems like some people and Jerry in particular compartmentalize these kinds of crimes to the point that they convince themselves they haven’t done anything wrong. Same goes with those close to them. So it is completely possible this man isn’t even “engaged” and is in complete denial as is his wife and family I guess.

Not a tangent at all especially considering that his lawyer is making the weakest of efforts at defending him. I'm sure he knows that fleeing in the middle of the night would never work but I am kinda surprised that the guy hasn't offed himself yet. Do you suppose he's just too much of a coward or does he really believe that he's done nothing wrong or is he banking on a symapthetic jury? Wo knows but it is weird.

Well if I was Sandusky and had people covering my @ss all my life why would I think the court system would be any different?

I think lattrans (sic) and ssckelly actually agree more than they disagree. As I read this anyway. I think they are just talking past each other, rather than to each other.

I guess speaking for myself, I agree a sex offender is a sex offender, but I also agree that the PSU is much more serious than anything we have seen at the U of I.

Anyway, Blessed is Golfer, for he is a peacemaker (Golfer is a Beatitude?)

My previous reference to comission, omission and/or conspiracy was directed at Jo Pa, and the PSU administration, including football depart and athletic department.

I can't get into Jo Pa's head, but he did report this. A second hand report. Immediately. He later regretted not doing more, as anyone would after the facts came pouring out.

There are some others on the staff that had first hand knowledge. They don't get the same consideration from me. As well as those that this was reported to. It's not clear to me yet what actually happened there.

I don't think many will ever know the full story, I also think those with first-hand knowledge have more a part. But, honestly, if you were the spouse of Sandusky or an accused serial rapist, what would you do? How can she stand by his side? Did she know? She almost had to know don't you think?

Very fair and reasonable stance......pretty much mirrors my thoughts. Shocking I know…:D

Those really close to him had to know. I'm not sure there are facts that could be entered in a court of law, but I agree with you, his spouse and closest friends probably knew. But maybe not. Alcoholics cover up pretty good at first. Who knows?

His wife probably just didn't pry and used her defense mechanism of repression. I guess if she loved sandusky the man, by default, I guess she still loves sandusky the rapist.
