Those with evaluation skills

I believe Josh O. will be much more effective once we establish a true low post presence...he is a sharp shooter and will most likely only get better over time.

Fran has done a great job at putting the pieces together.
1.) Two big's in Woodbury and Meyer to draw down the defense
2.) A couple slashers in Marble, Gessel, and Ingram
3.) A zone busting sharp shooter in Ogelsby, and Gessel possibly?
4.) A couple scrappers and rebounder's in Basabe and McCabe
5.) A true match up nightmare at SF in Aaron White. (love this kid)

I think this team will be great in a few years, if not next year.

Who will be having the nightmares here?

Josh did a very good job of "selling" himself while in HS and thus getting a little more attention from coaches than his skill set would have otherwise gotten him.

He'll never be a starter but a guy that can hopefully hit a couple shots here or there.
Disagree BIG TIME. Simply not true. Josh is a true 2 guard and when we get 5 guys that are comfortable in their positions and not playing outside of them, he'll be a guy that comes in a hits 3-4 3's a game.

I know some of the shots just aren't falling right now, but JO doesn't look like he's too far off from becoming a pretty effective player. He seems to have a good court sense and has looked pretty good in some situations this year. I think he'll be a much better version of what Bawinkle was for the Hawks.

No. Their athletic 6 ft 5 athletic wings would just get right in White's space when he catches the ball on the perimeter and force him to pass hit or steal it from him. White is not going to dribble drive or create from the wing with any consistency. He can't change directions with the ball. He's a great stretch 4, let him play against crappy post players.

Again, he was a career 39% 3 PT shooter in high school. That translates to about 35% in college. Now 3/9-4/12 would put him at 1pt per possession. He would have to stay over .50 on his 2 PT FGs to stay over 1. So, not sure if Iowa wants him firing away like that.

So a 6'8 SF who can play the PF position is not a nightmare matchup? Your 6'5 athletic player can't stop him in the post, and your bigger PF can't stop him from slashing to the hole...plus he has a great nose for the rebound and put back.

I will take him starting at SF if we have a true center or power forward next season...which I think we will. He has better shooting ability than McCabe or anybody else we could put at that position. The biggest problem we will have is him guarding that 6'5 SF from the arch, but in his defense, his length has been a big asset in blocking quite a few shots this season.

So if this is just a quip over what position he should be playing then lets agree that he is going to be a valuable piece of this team for the next 3 seasons at whatever position he plays and move on. ;-)

I do think people underestimate how length can be an equalizer. The key is to anticipate and play smart. With White, Meyer, McCabe, and Woody down low. They can make it difficult for teams to penetrate.
