THIS RECRUITING STORY IS GETTING OLD

What is your basis for this stance? I think my position on this is different than many others. I don't think recruiting or individual recruits can be evaluated until after their careers are completed. I'm not evaluating Fran's recruiting based on what the various rating services think. A recruiting class is an unknown until after they have played their 4 years at Iowa IMO.

Nicely done, Windsor.....

Below are Fran's recruiting classes. He got Cartwright and brought Basabe. McCabe was always going to be a Hawk and he had to get Marble to stay committed...so I included all 4 players his first year.

2010 – Cartwright, Marble, Basabe and McCabe
10-11 = 33.4 PPG & 15.7 RPG & 8.3 APG
11-12 = 33.5 & 15.3 & 9.7
12-13 = 27.5 & 12.8 & 4.8 (Cartwright gone)
13-14 = 30.3 & 11.8 & 5.1

2011 – White, Oglesby and Olaseni
11-12 = 18.9 & 8.6 & 2.3
12-13 = 20.0 & 10.2 & 2.5
13-14 = 25.9 & 13.1 & 3.5

2012 – Gesell, Woodbury, Clemmons, Ingram and Meyer
12-13 = 18.8 & 9.6 & 6.5
13-14 = 16.4 & 8.5 & 6.7 (Ingram gone)

2013 – Jok
13-14 = 4.4 & .9 & .7

2014 – Ellingson, Uhl and Dickerson (so far)

The 2010 class has a 2 time all conference player in Marble and an all freshman team player in Basabe. Cartwright was also crucial to putting a competitive team on the floor...think we got him in June so recruiting may not be done for this year just yet.

The 2011 class already has an all freshman team and 1 time all conference player in White. The final analysis of this class must wait a year.

The classes for 2012, 2013 and 2014 are just coming into their own or aren't even on campus yet. Time will tell what to make of their contributions.

My take:

2010 - Cartwright was a last-minute recruit intended to get a serviceable PG on the floor, and was probably the best Fran was gonna do on short notice. Fran did a good job keeping Marble committed, and Basabe was obviously an easy sell since he committed to Fran at Siena. McCabe wasn't going anywhere, as you said. In 2010, I wasn't about to be critical of what Fran could or could not bring in, since he had just taken the job, but I think he did as good as could be expected.

2011 is turning out to be solid. Let's hope all three of these guys really step up big for their senior seasons. I still think all three have room to become more consistent than we've seen to date.

The 2012 class is very much a mixed big. Gesell & Woody are nice players. Clemmons is a question mark at this point, but think he has potential. Ingram & Meyer - safe to say they both were misses.

2013 will be a "quality over quantity" class, obviously with just the 1 recruit. I think Jok will be a terrific player provided he keeps his head on straight (let's hope the recent DUI is just a blip on the radar).

2014 - Just have to wait and see.

I trust McCaffery in three respects. -- ability to recruit quality players, ability to develop players, and in-game coaching.

McCaffery will be the Iowa head coach for at least the next dozen years. Bank it.

Fair enough. I have serious reservations about McCaffery in all three respects. I think he is a good salesman, and he gives a great press conference, but at some point, he's got to put meat on the table and start bringing home some hardware, at at least have a winning conference record...
