This may surprise some people

as I have been quite critical of Lick and his system on here.

But I had a good time at Carver tonight. The ice cream was half price. The game was very entertaining. I didn't feel it was boring at all for some reason. The crowd was in it even though it wasn't very full. We actually got out and ran a few times. We attacked the basket and went to the free throw line for a change.

Sure we came up short. I have a whole separate issue of ticked off feelings for the game itself. But the experience and the product was decent.

Good for you Burky. I am glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully they can get a couple of wins before the season ends. I think they deserved it tonight, but it was not to be.

Having three Hawks have the game of their careers (maybe not Gatens but close) really helps the flow of the game. Michigan also played very well and it is always fun to watch players like Sims and Harris operate. I agree in that this game was about the opposite of the NW game in terms of the flow and crowd.

I only got to watch the last 7 minutes.

But isn't this what Iowa fans want?

Isn't this the easy answer to put fans in the seats?

Being competitive. Going toe-to-toe with an opponent.

Not feeling like it's the JV versus the Varsity.

Regardless of the outcome, this is what I want as an Iowa fan.

Seemed like they went away from the "system" and went to exploit mismatches...... and made a persistent goal to get the ball to Fuller when he was feeling it!!! Like a normal basketball team!!!

It certainly felt like Iowa "belonged" out there. Fuller and Gatens really stepped up. Very impressed with Fuller's aggressive play.

Exactly.

It was the first time in a long time I wasn't complaining about the system, or focused on TL not wearing his jacket......... it was like watching the Hawkeyes play basketball. Like it used to be!!

That game was fun!! yea, losing sucks, but God that was entertaining to watch!

If we get to that point where it just gets to basketball.... and have a chance to win games.... God I want that back with Iowa basketball!

Very well said. Losing will always suck. But tonight's loss didn't quite sting as much for me. Just because I saw what resembles what Iowa basketball should be for the first time in a loooooong time. Had I watched it on tv, I imagine it would have stung twice as much. As it was, I left kind of happy. I know it sounds weird, and I'd probably have checked myself in the psych ward except I heard several other people stating similar things as we were leaving Carver.

I've been waiting forever to feel that "Iowa basketball feeling" in Carver. I experienced it tonight. I don't know if it was a one in a million type thing or a sign of things to come. But there was just no way I could have possibly left upset.

Can't disagree but they need to be able to compete every night and they have a long way to go to reach that point.

The crowd sounded into it on TV....with some reason. I like how we really identified Aaron as the mismatch and we milked it again and again. I said to my son, that he should get the ball on every single possession, and he did get it a lot....good to see the team recognizing that had to happen. When Aaron got the ball, good things happened. He made some nice passes when he did not score.

Tough loss, but at least we went down firing.

I feel a little empty after this game. Iowa didn't deserve to lose that game.

I'll never understand this notion. Does either team deserve to lose? Does the team that made enough plays to win the game (Michigan) deserve to lose instead? Teams lose heartbreakers every night. I don't recall Iowa getting screwed by a bad officiating call that cost the game.

Stormin...I am a hawkeye homer too. But did they deserve to win it??? Man as a coach and you lose a 5 pt. lead late in a game it is on you the coach. Poor decisions down the stretch, some defensive lapses, a poor play drawn up at the TO, no quick foul, no pressure...they didn't do the little things in the end to win.

We were not exactly playing the Kentucky Wildcats out there.

Was good to have a chance to win.

But, that is not happening every game out.

And definitely isn't happening against some teams that it should.

Michigan is a team we should beat every time on the court. Sims and Harris are talented, but the rest of the team is nothing to write home about.

And to lose to them at home, with 2999 fans watching, is pretty darn embarassing.

Wow reading these post...didn't feel as bad...have a better feeling....WOW. Home game at Carver and we are happy we didn't get blown out...or great moral victory. It just pains me to hear this banter.

Burky, the ice cream will again be half price on Friday night for the wrestling dual against #4 Ohio State.

All the raspberry you can eat for $1.75 per cone!

Yeah? I will be there :)

And let me add to the previous poster that in no way do I believe in moral victories. And if you had followed any of my posts over the year, I'm a season ticket holder who is very unhappy with what has happened within the walls of Carver. And have been pretty animate that I would like to see changes within the staff(if not a complete overhaul).

But I also need to be honest. One of my biggest complaints has been that there has been no atmosphere at Carver this year. That regardless of how well we have or haven't improved, that this product is too boring to watch. And it hasn't felt like Iowa basketball since TL has came here. That wasn't the case last night. Trust me, no one was more shocked than me.

I could go on and on probably about things I wasn't happy about with the game last night. And probably will eventually in other threads. But I also wanted to start a thread and acknowledge that it was an entertaining game last night. Like I stated earlier, I don't know if it was a sign of things to come. Or if things will resort back to morgue like status. But I will give props when I'm impressed.

Yeah, we played toe-to-toe with a bad Michigan team...super. I guess if Fuller has a career night every game, we should have more moral victories!
