Or what is more likely (judging by his past coaching decisions) he really doesn't think he needs to change anything.
Exactly!!!! Why change when you are comfortable with everything? Sorry, couldn't resist.

But what good does changing little things do if there are deeper issues? What good is it to fire an OC if the problem is more the result of lack of playmakers then the OC himself? OR what good is it to fire the OC if he's being micro-managed by the Head coach and isn't able to do what he wants to do?
Changes can be easily made, the problem is that if there's no thought behind which changes are made or need to be made, then whats the point when the results will be the same or similar to what they were before the changes were made.
I agree that things aren't perfect in Ft. Kinnick, but before changes can be made they need to figure out where the problems lie and analyze what needs to be done to fix things. Unfortunately I don't think its as simply as honestly answering a question to the media when you haven't had the opportunity to rationally assess the situation. It does him no good whatsoever, to address it in a presser simply to try to please the fans and media.
Edit: Nothing he says in a presser will make us feel better about this season, so why address it. People have their opinions either way and those opinions most likely will not change based on what he says.

True, but his answers can be revealing. And he revealed what all of us think, and that's that he doesn't think things are as bad as they are or he wouldn't have said that.

I don't believe that for a minute. I think the only thing he confirmed, IMO, is that there are certain things he will and won't discuss with the press, and that was one of them. I think his response was a way to avoid pouring fuel on the media fire by giving them an opportunity to dig deeper. I've said before, that I don't think you can get into a coach's mind and figure him out based on what he says to a reporter.
I'm in agreement with you that you can't get inside anybody's mind. However, words certainly have meaning. To even mention the word comfortable after this season is revealing. Wouldn't you agree?
Let me give you an analogy. A CEO of a company that has 3 main businesses and all three businesses did horribly for that year. The CEO reports to the board and says the word comfortable concerning all three of his Vice Presidents of those three businesses.
If you were on the board, what would you think of that CEO for saying that?

Depends on the businesses and timing. If it were the CEO of Morgan Stanley reporting on proprietary trading, fixed income and equities in 2009, I'd think nothing of the bad year. Sometimes organizations have downturns that really aren't anyone in the organization's fault. And sometimes organizations find success through no special actions of anyone in the organization.

Caring about coachspeak in press conferences is like caring about Grover Cleveland's favorite sock color.
In both cases, even your mother will eventually ask you to STFU.
