This is what pisses me off about losing French

A smaller population means fewer kids. And I see nothing wrong with people hoping that kids will stay in state.

But the point of the OP was that this kind of thing would never happen in Texas or Ohio. My point was that actually, it happens all the time.

If he actually faked for the Iowa hat.....Then we don't want a low class traitor like that anyway.

The kid is Zeron Flemister with even worse hands.

Zeron played in the NFL...not sure of the point you're trying to make?

If a team has a 4* athlete, it seems you'd try to feature him. Watched him play 3 times on Mediacom, and they barely looked at him on offense (maybe they used him as a decoy all season). I posted earlier that either the head coach was incompetent, or CF was vastly over rated. I'll pick the later.

Whats rarer-a big foot sighting or a CF offensive highlite? The kid had 10 catchs this year and rarely played offense.

Type in his name in the search function above, and go back and read some of the posts on him this summer, or earlier. I think most people felt a few ways...

a) What position is he going to play at Iowa?
b) He has expressed wanting to be a pass catcher of some kind...and he doesn't have good hands
c) never seemed likely that he was going to wind up at Iowa. From early on, he seemed like someone that wanted to blaze his own trail and go elsewhere.

I really haven't spent much time thinking about him because of the feelings I got. Not that I have anything against him, but it just seemed from an early stage that he was not into being a Hawkeye all that much

Heard too many things about him being soft, so not going to worry too much; and at least he is not going to another in-conference school. When we lose our best kids to Nebraska is the time to really be concerned.

It certainly is good to have such strong evaluators of talent on this board. Oregon's recruiting staff could learn a thing or two if they came on here once in a while.

Why should anyone care? Who knows what will happen with this kid or any other one? Nobody, that's who. Recruiting is about as exact a science as weather forecasting.

So a kid from CR goes to Oregon. Big deal. Good luck to him. That just opens a spot for the next Dallas Clark. Or don't you remember the likes of Willie Guy and Jeff Brinson?

I don't understand all of the love for this guy.He might be 4* on paper but that's all.I don't recall him being that much of a impact player this year.I say let him go,good bye and good luck.

Totaly agree ; don't see this guy ever being a factor in the Ducks program. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up transfering down the road. Far from an elite player in my opinion.

Why are we losing four star players out of state? From right on up the road? Kinda ridiculous.

It's not about French, it's about the fact that we lost a high profile player to another state, which I would argue is a situation unique to Iowa.

I can;t imagine the best recruits in Texas or Ohio going to Nebraska.

Although ultimate DB bag move by French to fake to the Iowa hat.

This is one kid! The sky is not falling. Iowa has a very good track record of keeping the top players in house. As for French, so be it. One player does not make the program. Oregon is the "cool" place to be right now. They have the uniforms, Nike backing, all the fun toys, etc. You can't blame an 18 year old kid for wanting to be around that for the next four seasons.

It's too bad to miss out but it's not the end of the world. The way kids are now he may go out there and pull a "brinson" and get homesick or not get the grades......there is a decent chance he won't see the field at oregon either and when he quits there he will come back to CR and see if the hawks will take him........let's just go out and get the next one. No reason to give up yet

Your last line answered the question, i.e., it wasn't about "us", it was about "him".

We/ISU lost, over the years, Trev Alberts, Roger Craig, Adrian Arrington, yada yada yada.

In basketball, Kirk Hinrich, Raef LaFrentz, and of course most recently, Harrison Barnes.

<<I can't imagine the best recruits in Texas or Ohio going to Nebraska>>

Yeah, with the talent hotbed that is Nebraska, they didn't have any need to go out of state...(saracasm intended)

EDIT: As homer is my witness, I have always maintained that if a recruit choosing my school did the fake-hat-grab to another school, I would flat-out tell him: Apologize to Coach X...or sign your LOI there...because that crap does NOT happen in our programs as long as I am running it. FYI: John Clay did the "fake-grab-for-Iowa-hat" maneuver at the Army All-America game. And it was patently stupid, given that Wisconsing newspapers were reporting his commitment to UW five hours before the game.

Alas, nobody said these were the kids with the most "class" or most "intelligence"...

I understand, that Iowa players want to expand their horizons. It is actually a smarter decision. Look at Al Lorenzon. What would have happened if he would have went to Kansas?? We're going to lose local talent. I'd rather get a star recruit from another state because they are more committed, or at least because they are getting away from local superstar treatment.

Flemister got a look in the NFL because of those measurables. He was terrible at Iowa and did nothing in the NFL. Understand now?

The French kid is going to end up like the other Adrian Arrington's of the world 4-star that does little to nothing at the next level. I wish him well but it doesn't herald the demise of Hawkeye football.

Oh and Oregon's chances against Auburn...IMO are not very good. I think this game is going to go about like last year's Rose Bowl. 38 days to prep for an offense is alot and I don't think Oregon has seen a QB like they are going to get in Cam Newton boys and girls.

By "next level", are you referring to college or the pros? Because Arrington did plenty at Michigan. 1400+ yards and 16 TD's in two years. Getting stuck behind guys like Braylon Edwards, Mario Manningham, Steve Breaston, and Jason Avant is hardly an insult. That 3 NFL starters and a slot receiver, including the best WR in Michigan history (Edwards). Had he gone to a school that wasn't as loaded at WR, he could have lit the world on fire.

Kids aren't obligated to go to the nearest college.

Many want to get as far away from home as possible. Get out and see the world, or even avoiding the extra pressure involved with staying home.

If that's the case, there's nothing Kirk Ferentz or any other coach can do about it.

Everything I've read about this kid indicates that we're not missing out on much anyway.

Correct. Getting Hamilton and a few other TE-types sealed the deal. Getting French would mean taking two risks at WR (Vincent and French). I would be happier with Chance Early at WR than French. Tho I admit French has the tools to be an A-A if Oregon motivates him and he finds the right position for himself.
