This is what pisses me off about losing French

Go check out Nebraska's recruiting class. A lot of the best recruits from Texas

But it happens in ever state, look at how many of Oklahoma's big recruits come from Texas.

They're from Texas, but the only reason 95% of those kids are available to go to those schools is because UT passed them over because they weren't (supposedly) the best players. The OP's point is that French is one of the best in-state players Iowa has, and he's leaving the state. They're different situations.

All that said, this kid owes Iowa (the university and the state) nothing. Faking the hat was lame, though.

This is about French wanted to play WR and Oregon was the only school recruiting him as a WR. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Everything I have read about this kid has turned me off. I don't know him, I have never seen him play. I just have always gotten a bad feeling from articles about him and his quotes. Hearing about the hat fake goes right in line with everything I have thought to this point.

That being said, Eugene is as close a college town to Iowa City I have found, only with better weather, better scenery, and a better city nearby. It and Pullman are the only two real college towns in the P10.

On top of that, Autsen is an even better atmosphere than Kinnick.

Why do these people going out of state have a press conference in IOwa . It is like saying screw you Hawks or clones. They can go where they want, but have the press conference elsewhere and don't rub it in our faces.

Agreed. Besides, the whole idea of a high school kid holding a press conference is quite ridiculous in the first place. No need to feed the ego beast at that age.

Meanwhile, Iowa will just throw a few more converted QB's out there...

He's a complete project at wr and he doens't have the best hands, not a good combination. He won't see the field for 3 years, if at all. You don't recruit project WR's. You recruit project DE's and LB's.

Had he played WR at Iowa, he wouldn't have played for several years regardless of his skills and he would have been underutilized had he turned into a top notch receiver anyway...

I thought Iowa was the ONLY school of the 3 that recruited him at wide receiver from the very start. The others schools changed their story at the end of his recruitment.

Smart kid, wants to actually play on a team that wont fester in mediocrity every year sans the 1 in 10 year that actually turns out well.

I thought Oregon was the only school to recruit him as a WR but I could be wrong.

According to the Rivals rankings in the 2010 class the top player from:
California went to Florida.
Minnesota went to Miami (via USC)
Illinois went to USC
Pennsylvania went to Florida
North Carolina went to Cal
New York went to Florida
Oregon went to UCLA
Georgia went to Tennessee
Arkansas went to Auburn
Ohio went to Miami
Colorado went to Cal
Mississippi went to Auburn
Virginia went to LSU
Indiana went to North Carolina
Connecticut went to Penn St

I could go on, and that was just in one year (and it was just the #1 recruit from each state). Top notch recruits travel all over the country to go to college every year. This is extremely common, not just to Iowa, but to every state. I'll never understand why Iowa fans are so shocked that this happens and take it so personally.

Whats rarer-a big foot sighting or a CF offensive highlite? The kid had 10 catchs this year and rarely played offense.

If you're 6'4", weigh 230 lbs, and run a 4.4 40, how can you possibly not be a factor in Iowa high school football? If you have never played a down in your life the least you should be able to do is be immensely disruptive while making mistakes. Kid sounds like he is in for a rude awakening at the collegiate level. Soft at the high school level does not translate well.

Sounds like a guy I went to high school with way back when. Guy was like 6'6 230 and could run as a TE. Was targeted like 80 times...

with 16 catches for the year. Ended up walking on somewhere and lasting a year.

I think the thing most people are overlooking is the fact that it is ultimately a recruits decision where they go, unless your father is a southern preacher of course, and they have their reasons for going elsewhere. IMHO, if this guy was 2 stars, nobody would care.
Now the case I wondered about is Ebert the DT from Iowa Western who Iowa DIDN'T even offer or show much interest in even though he lived like 2 minutes from Kinnick, pretty much said he wanted to be a Hawkeye but is going to Oregon also.

Are you freaking kidding me?

Maybe he made his announcement in Iowa because, oh, I don't know, he lives in Iowa? If he made his announcement at the University of Iowa and announced Oregon, then you have a point, but what is the issue with a kid making the announcement in his home town?

On the news right after they interviewed him at the press conference they said he would most likely play TE at Oregon so that's not it.

Type in his name in the search function above, and go back and read some of the posts on him this summer, or earlier. I think most people felt a few ways...

a) What position is he going to play at Iowa?
b) He has expressed wanting to be a pass catcher of some kind...and he doesn't have good hands
c) never seemed likely that he was going to wind up at Iowa. From early on, he seemed like someone that wanted to blaze his own trail and go elsewhere.

I really haven't spent much time thinking about him because of the feelings I got. Not that I have anything against him, but it just seemed from an early stage that he was not into being a Hawkeye all that much

Heard too many things about him being soft, so not going to worry too much; and at least he is not going to another in-conference school. When we lose our best kids to Nebraska is the time to really be concerned.
