I would rather win 31-10 like we could have had we had a competent offensive game plan.
this...
Northwester is a bad defensive team... should be able to score more than 10 pts in regulation.

I'm sorry, but this is the sort of sentiment I see everywhere on Iowa boards that I just can't agree with. You presume that somehow this Iowa offense has the talent to score much more often than it does, but that somehow coaching holds it back. I guess I just don't see that with this team. I see an offense with a solid line, a good QB, average to below average RB's, and possibly the worst receiving corps in the country. Is there a D1 team you wouldn't trade with when it comes to Iowa WR's?
I think Iowa is very limited when it comes to changing it up on offense. I think the coaching staff has come out with a solid plan to start the game almost every week. I don't think they intentionally get away from what works, because that argument presupposes a defense that fails to make any adjustments. I just don't think this team can do a whole lot when plan A fails. I'm willing to blame the coaching staff for that, but I believe it is primarily a recruiting failure, and not a scheming issue.
Ramon Ochoa would stand out like Terrell Owens on this team.
I was excited at the end of the game - was satisfied but just like the coaching staff is right now I'm looking to the future.
I want to win more games than just this one.
I feel satisfied that they won but I still have angst towards the future.
In college football it doesn't take great talent to score points sorry... this is how Nebraska built a dynasty with the option in its early days.
I understand your point about talent on offense and I agree.
But there is no excuse to not score more against a bad defense like northwestern.
It's related to the coaching philosophy and in game management.
it's not dopey at all .... our defense historically is good... we don't score enough points on offense to win as much as we could.
It's pretty simple and straightforward.
If we could find a way just to produce a bit more offense (in a college football landscape were some teams score as much as 4x what we do) then we could really improve.
Baylor beating ISU 61-7... so spare me with all the if we score a lot of points we have Indiana scores.
That's my fault I guess... I was trying to show that it doesn't take great talent to score points just a good scheme - but yet somehow simpletons want to twist things around to say that I wan't to be like Indiana's program.
Sure this is a message board and people twist stuff around...
But my point is not really that complicated - we don't score enough and that's why we lose games we shouldn't - against teams that are inferior physically.

and costs them so many wins.
From USA Today Last November 2012:
"Major college football is about to make scoring history.
Through Tuesday, the 124 teams in the Bowl Subdivision have scored 36,130 points over 1,232 games, an average of 29.3 points per team per game. If that average holds, it would break the record of 28.4 points a game set in 2007."
We just don't know as a staff how to produce enough points... and it's not about talent (see Indiana scoring avg)
KF's team is averaging 27.4 pts a game. That is two points off the record breaking average. Is KF good or bad?

Bad he bad. We all agree he bad.

Take out the Western Michigan game - where the defense special teams scored 28... and the average is 21.85 BAD BAD BAD

If you want to exclude the WM game, you need to do the same for every other team in the nation. They all played a game or two against inferior talent. Take out the Michigan State game against the best defense in the nation and the average is 29.3 pts a game. It's easy to manipulate numbers.

Nebraska built a dynasty by playing in the Big 8 which consisted of Oklahoma and 7 doorknobs.
oh so they won national titles by playing against bad teams and smoke and mirrors?
C'mon now you know that aint going to sell... and btw I hate Nebraska
