WE have played an FCS team, Troy (one of the worst teams in the country), Iowa State a pretty good team that was playing without top 3 LBs and Minnesota. Not exactly a tough schedule to date. This game should tell us if Johnson is a legit top RB, If our defense is still elite and if a change in QB is coming?? Not going to win at Ohio State but still a lot to play for

I don't think it will tell us if KJ is a legit top RB...we already know the answer to that. But against a D as stout as OSU, you still need a passing game to keep safeties back, and an OL to at least occupy guys. There is no guarantee we will get that. Even if he rushes 15 times for 10 yards, it won't change my opinion of his talent.
I agree with you on this being telling for our defense, and the progress of the offense as a whole.

I don't know that OSU's defense is elite, and I don't think we will know that it is after playing a very challenged offensive team in Iowa. If Iowa scores 21 points on them, however, I think we can say they are not elite. 
OSU has played absolutely no one. The toughest game was to a Michigan State team that barely beat a really bad Florida Atlantic team at home. Barely. Iowa lost to a Top 20 ISU team and spanked a Minnesota team on the road, at night, and that Minny squad then took the defending national champs to the wire last weekend. Iowa is clearly more battle tested.
That said, OSU has talent like no other. Hopefully, they are overconfident and don't have their A game.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm not sure it will tell us a ton. We could lose by 3 touchdowns and win every remaining game. I hope I'm wrong and this game is close, but OSU has a ridonkulous amount of talent this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they make the NC game. In terms of talent, it's at the same level as Alabama and Georgia.
I'm not putting any stock into this game Saturday. I've been watching Iowa play OSU since I was a kid and with rare exception, it's a tough outing. Again, I always hope for the best.

OSU's main message board site has a weekly snap count tracker. After the MSU game they've had 32 players get snaps on defense and 30 of those players got 10 or more snaps. That kind of depth is absolutely unreal. The luxury of having a three-deep chart where everyone on it would start at most P4 schools is almost insurmountable.
- They played 8 DEs and 5 of them had over 60 snaps each.
- They played 9 different DTs and 6 of them had over 30 snaps each.
- They played 12 different O-linemen and 10 of them had over 50 snaps a piece.
That's got to be so demoralizing for their opponents on either side of the ball...Get the guy across from you sucking wind after five or six hard-fought pushes??? Just wait. Here comes another 4 star with fresh legs from the 10 minute rest and 20 oz Gatorade he just had.

We can’t even upset ranked teams anymore. However, we can renew Kirk’s contract.
Don’t even have to write it up. Just put it into the copying machines and get out the stamp hit once or twice in then ink pad and stamp that bitch contract.
I lost count but are we 0-8 or 0-7 against the ranked teams we have played?
Punting is winning except when playing ranked teams. That should be on t-shirts.
On the front of the t-shirt it should read
“Punting is winning EXCEPT…..”
On the back of the shirt “When we play ranked teams.”
On another point I have been waiting for Iowa State to go off the rails with a spectacular train wreck but they appear to be getting better each week.
They may well be on their way to a playoff birth. I am sure they have some Iowa kids on their roster so I am cheering them on. It would be nice to have an Iowa team represented in the playoff.
Until Kirk retires or dies first it won’t ever be an Iowa Hawkeye Uniform.

All it told me is what I already knew. Parker's defense is always very good, but when faced with elite talent, it eventually breaks down. Iowa's offense is better than the last 2 seasons, but still well below average. Finally, it told me that Parker and KF's coaching reputations have been propped up by playing offensive tin cans in the West for the last decade, and those days are officially behind us.

The running game is installed and will work against most teams. The passing game is still developing and should be better going forward. I don't see 10-2 and I never did.

I think this weekend against Washington will tell us a lot more than last week. If Iowa looks bad and loses to a decent (but not all-world) Washington team, it will be a disappointing year overall.
OSU was always going to be a loss. Sorry, but thinking Iowa would win in the shoe is a great dream, but not an Iowa reality. Now, if Iowa had $20M in NIL funds and recruited in the same universe as OSU, then sure.

Its been said, but worth repeating. That team was dripping with talent. That WR corp would be the envy of some NFL locker rooms today and they had speed everywhere. Iowa isn't in the same league as OSU. Would lose 9 out of 10 times if they played 10 times, and the 1 time would take some weird stuff happening.

From the looks of it, Iowa has won twice in Columbus since 1960. These days we're just about on a once very ten year victory pace. OSU would have to decide to only run the ball, and to fumble 5 times.

There is something to be said for getting your ass kicked by a much better team EARLY in the season. When you play a team so talented and fast like OSU, it makes your next couple opponents seem much more manageable. There is no one on Washington's offense that will be as scary as what Iowa's D just faced. Silver lining.
