This game certainly does not help the cause for saying we belong with Big Ten Elite

Re: This game certainly does not help the cause for saying we belong with Big Ten Eli

Football season must be about over, time to complain about how the basketball team wins.

Thanks lightning. Some people can't see the real argument being discussed. The performance last night (along with several of our other games this year and going back to last year) I think go beyond being off for x amount of time. I think we are seeing a pattern here. I hope not, but I think there are some real chinks in the armor. It does not mean we are not a good team, we are, but they have to clean up a number of things if they want to really contend for the Big Ten title and a higher seed in the Big Dance. And they need to do it quick.

The chinks in our armor of not closing out games well and having some off nights at the line are keeping us from being a top 5 team. We are still a really good team even with those chinks.

Agreed...and we have 17 games to work out any chinks. The NCAA Tournament is in March...not the 1st week of January.

Ohio St and MSU both won on the road and controlled both games in the 2nd half. If we are comparing apples to apples their wins yesterday were more impressive.

Apples to apples you say... Ohio State, MSU and Iowa are all 1-0 and tied for 1st. How do you like them apples?

Quoting a troll...even a long time troll...doesn't strengthen your position.

I'm not sure the argument "if Iowa plays bad they won't win games" is worth having because, well, no ****.

Re: This game certainly does not help the cause for saying we belong with Big Ten Eli

Hyperbole vs logic. I'll take the logic. Nice post. Heaven forbid anyone question the play of the team, especially when we win. Just shut up and don't spill the Koolaid.

You don't use logic. You say dumb ****, angrily and because assume it's enlightening because it's negative in spin. You've argued that the team that is 9th in the country in assists doesn't pass enough. That's not logic, that's stupid.

Angrily??? You're the one cursing, not me.
Look at the percentages. We also have more possessions than most teams in the country. Give us assists per possession numbers and see where we fall. I guarantee you we wont be 9th in the country. I'd bet you $1000 cash money ob that!
Take the bet, I'll produce the numbers and collect your paychecks for a couple of months.

We rank 26th in the nation in A/FGM. We're not even in the top 25, what a bunch of ******* ballhogs!!

Jon - can you ban this idiot? We don't need this racist garbage on the board.

26th is a far cry from 9th but that isnt the stat I asked for, genius.

LOL you think I got $500 laying around. You know how many extra shifts I would have to pick up to get that much coin?

Ship $5. I'll put it in a frame and hang it at the local bar, in your honor.

Re: This game certainly does not help the cause for saying we belong with Big Ten Eli

eh its too early to know much yet about the big ten season.. lets wait and see how they play against Wisconsin

Re: This game certainly does not help the cause for saying we belong with Big Ten Eli

Ohio St and MSU both won on the road and controlled both games in the 2nd half. If we are comparing apples to apples their wins yesterday were more impressive.

Those teams are also widely considered to be better than Iowa. I would expect better teams to look more impressive. The point is, they both struggled.

Look at last season; all the top teams (except Indiana) had at least one off night against lesser competition (or just an awful night, in general).

MSU
NW: won by 10, outscoring NW by 4 in the second half
Michigan: Got absolutely run off their own floor, losing by 23 in the Breslin Center
Nebraska: won by 10, tied at half

Michigan
PSU: Won the game, 79-71. Lost on the road to PSU just a week later.

OSU
NW: won by 10, tied at half.

Wisconsin
PSU: won the game, 60-51. PSU outscored Wisconsin by 2 in the second half.
Purdue: Lost, 69-56

Even the league's top teams are going to have off nights. Will they beat the other top teams on those nights? No (the MSU/Michigan game is evidence of that). But having an off night, even at home against a below-average team, doesn't preclude a team from being one of the conference's best.

Re: This game certainly does not help the cause for saying we belong with Big Ten Eli

When there are over 300 Division I teams, the difference between 9th and 26th is pretty damn small. Hell, just look at scoring averages; you have to go all the way down to #43 (PSU) before you get below 80 ppg. The nation's top scoring team (Oregon) averages 90.8 ppg. 10.7 ppg is all that separates the #1 scoring team and the #42 scoring team. That's not a big difference.

Re: This game certainly does not help the cause for saying we belong with Big Ten Eli

I wonder if Indiana said the same thing when they barely beat Iowa in the opener last year?
