This D May Be As Fun to Watch as the '85 Bears

I'm going out on a limb and saying, let's play Wisconsin before we say this is a great defense. If we hold Wisconsin to less than 20 points...this is a great defense. Wisconsin is a legitimate top 5 offensive football team with their offensive line back in it's entirety, their QB back and a Heisman running back...plus talented receivers.

There is your litmus test for you.

After the 1st drive, ISU crossed the 50 once. Turned it over on downs at the 43. Made it to their own 47 and 43. Made it across their own 30 3 other times. The rest of their drives ended inside their own 30. Forced 6 three-and-outs.

I’d say that’s pretty damn good!!!

First, we have no idea if either team we beat are good teams.

Second, the 85 bears had an extremely potent offense.

Third, our offense doesn’t dominate anyone or anything. The bears offense was on the field a long time and gave the defense long periods of rest.

Fourth, thus far our offense has looked BAD against teams that we have no idea how good or bad their defenses are.

Fifth, our offensive line has looked porous as Stanley seldom has time to set up in the pocket.

Sixth, if you think this team has been fun or entertaining to watch you probably enjoy watching cars rust.

I get it that your are talking about the defense but Iowa State appears to be a one dementional team offensively which is their running back. We were able to key on him. God only knows what going to happen when we play a team that has multiple offensive threats.

The bears 85 defense just overpowered and smothered their opponents. Richard Dent was an absolute beast and had to be doubled teamed and even then he couldn’t be kept out of the backfield.

The 85 bears had the Super Bowl shuffle. Our offense looks like they should be playing shuffleboard with a bunch of geriatric ward members. Just awful.

A win is a win and I will give them that. Beat UNI and then when we play Wisconsin beat them and then I will give our team props. I don’t care if we win 3-0 or 10-7 against Wisconsin, just win. Then I will be impressed.

The bears this team is not at this point. Beat UNI and shut down Wisconsin then we will be talking a comparison to the 85 BEARS. If you want to compare our team to the last bears Super Bowl team that would be more realistic as the last bears Super Bowl team got to there with a strong defense and a placid offense.

Seventh - The 85 Bears were and NFL team and Iowa is college

Eighth --Iowa has different players than that team and

Ninth - that was 1985, how can they be now?

We've played NIU and ISU. Lets see what happens when we play a good offense. That ISU O line was awful. NIU was also held to 6 by Utah today. So they aren't exactly world beaters either.

That's what I was going to say. We've played two teams that are 0-3. We had something to do with two of those losses, however. Sagarin has ISU at 61 and NIU at 70.

Yea opponents record doesn't say much when we are 2/3 of their total opponents.

I totally agree but being a BEARS fan for over fifty years I am probably bias. They just mauled everyone’s offenses.
And quarterbacks. They usually didn't survive the game once that defense got into high gear. It took about six weeks and there were some early shootouts with Tampa Bay and Minnesota. After that 49er revenge game it was Katy bar the door.

There is something abut that 2000 Ravens defense where I really enjoyed watching them just totally shut down the opposing team's offense. Their entire run in the playoffs was just total domination.

All Trent Dilfer had to do as the Ravens QB was make no mistakes and the defense took care of the rest. Normally that makes for a boring game, but it was so dominating, it was kind of like watching a no-hitter in baseball. You just sit in awe and marvel at how it just keeps going.
