They shouldn't take Joe Pa's statue down.....

I think it was a drunk student slurring "sterno-ville", but some witty media type thought, "Hey?! Paterno-ville!"

I walked through it in 2009. It was f'n creepy. Drunk, dazed idiots sitting around in crappy tents and under cheap canopies, soaking wet, stinking like a fetid landfill, all the while believing they were "cool".
Patheticville, is what it should be called.

I have never understood its popularity.

How about statues and info plaques of all the sanderpsky victims, right in the center of campus? Perhaps a constant reminder of the heinous crimes that were committed on that campus would finally wake all those enablers from their willfully ignorant stupor.

Ditto the attention-starved douc#ebags at Duke who "camp out" in front of the crappy little basketball gym. WTF? Frigging losers.

I remember back in the 70s, on some Wide World of Sports type of show, a whole segment on how to get the best seats at the UCLA games that had sections dedicated to "open" seating. It included people camping out, holding places in line, etc.

I guess it's no different than people who camp out waiting to buy concert tickets.

Then again...do these universities NOT sell tickets online?!

Idolizing a football coach is stupid, anyway.

Continuing to idolize a football coach who protected his program, and not the children, is beyond the pale.

Will the place where the derelict students camp out before home games still be referred to as "paternoville"?
Is a place with that name really where you'd want to locate yourself? Especially if you're a young man?
Just in ... PENN STATE STUDENTS' BEAVER STADIUM ENCAMPMENT RENAMED NITTANYVILLE

NCC News

If I'm the current PSU leadership I want the statue taken down and all vestiges of Paterno removed to begin healing the community and signal contrition and renewal to the world. Based on the arrogant reaction and denial from the PSU fan base in the wake of the Freeh report, I want the statue, mural and all else Paterno to remain to remind the world what a vile, evil place Happy Valley was and continues to be.

As the original OP suggested Penn State needs to cover it up with a very black and very immovable curtain/cloth/cover.

This year needs nothing else.

As the story continues to un fold, victims come out, "willfull ignorance" (Joe Pa's sin) and the legal, personal and institutional issues work it self out over the coming years...

The cover becomes more and more removed... as restitution and real solutions to stopping child abuse continue to be revealed and enacted.

Eventually the artists and sculptors... the much more smarter than me will reveal a sculpture that tells us all it's about the kids... the innocent and we should NEVER.EVER forget a football game, a stupid victory is worth more than a child.. his or her innocence and the opportunity for that child to grow up and get a degree from PSU and sometime in 20 or 30 years be able to cheer for the Nittany Lions and shout out..

WE ARE PENN STATE!!!

Well, we're all grateful for that.

They should alter the statue so that Joe has his middle finger up to represent how he played the administration and the fans on what was really happening while he was renegotiating his contract while his house of cards was collapsing.

Plane flying over Penn State demands removal of Joe Paterno statue | Latest news | CentreDaily.com

"Take the statue down or we will." That's the message on a banner that a commercial plane is flying over the Penn State campus.

The banner appears to be referring to the Joe Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium that has been at the center of a debate in the wake of the Freeh report. That investigation found that Paterno was part of an administrative cover up of child sex abuse by Jerry Sandusky.

The plane flew out of the Ridge Soaring Gliderport in Julian this morning. Gliderport owner Tom Knauff said it is a commercial banner towing company out of Ohio.

"Banner towing is very commonly done from our gliderport," Knauff said.

That's typically during football games. In this case, the pilot was scheduled to be out for about three hours starting at about 10:15 a.m.

The flyover comes as the question of whether the Paterno statue should remain standing fuels debates. University trustees have said it is a sensitive issue and one that will have to be discussed with the community.

This is gonna get good.
