Plane flying over Penn State demands removal of Joe Paterno statue | Latest news | CentreDaily.com

"Take the statue down or we will." That's the message on a banner that a commercial plane is flying over the Penn State campus.

The banner appears to be referring to the Joe Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium that has been at the center of a debate in the wake of the Freeh report. That investigation found that Paterno was part of an administrative cover up of child sex abuse by Jerry Sandusky.

The plane flew out of the Ridge Soaring Gliderport in Julian this morning. Gliderport owner Tom Knauff said it is a commercial banner towing company out of Ohio.

"Banner towing is very commonly done from our gliderport," Knauff said.

That's typically during football games. In this case, the pilot was scheduled to be out for about three hours starting at about 10:15 a.m.

The flyover comes as the question of whether the Paterno statue should remain standing fuels debates. University trustees have said it is a sensitive issue and one that will have to be discussed with the community.

This is gonna get good.

I would say "interesting" myself...

it should be taken and melted down and put a flower bed, water fountain, or what ever in its place as though it was never there just as Jo Puke acted as though nothing was happening under his huge a$$ nose.

If PSU actually has a football season this year, and the statute is still standing, I wonder if we will see this flying over the stadium on game-day. . .

In case you can't read the sign it says "Protect the Paterno Statue"

THAT little doosh is going to protect the statue??
To quote the jock kid in Breakfast Club: "Two hits...me hitting you, you hitting the ground."

Will the place where the derelict students camp out before home games still be referred to as "paternoville"?
Is a place with that name really where you'd want to locate yourself? Especially if you're a young man?

They call it Nittanyville now actually.
