The University To Provide Live Music At Football Games.

Live music? I thought thats what the marching band was for.

Although it would be interesting if the live bands and the marching band teamed up for a few songs. Kinda like Fleetwood Mac and the USC matching band teameded up to record Tusk? Hey what is Fleetwood Mac doing nowadays?

So, Sally leaves, and we're getting a Kinnick wrestling duel, live music before games.....what's next?

Agree that the marching band (or even just the small troupe that travels from bar to bar on Fridays, if they still do that) should be part of the live music -- having an exclusive set of it's own on the plaza stage and then continuing to travel around the stadium, pre-game.

Problem is, the Iowa band SUCKS! Not saying the members are bad musicians, just saying they are the most impotent college marching band I've EVER seen. It's embarrassing when they're getting out played by Cy-band, 2:1, in Kinnick, no less! It's shameful and one of the biggest disappointments of the game-day experience that seems to be one of the easiest fixes -- just play some f-ing music, once in a while, rather than deferring to the visiting band!

The other game-day fix ... sell some beer. Simple. Will result in ZERO issues. Problem is the IC & UofI p.c. gang are to busy hiding from the shadow of "what if" rather than going all in to make each and every home game an all-day festival atmosphere that's a destination event rather than a buzz-kill.

I have heard David Zolo and Brother Trucker many, many times so they will be great.

Neat idea, get some people up around the stadium earlier.

Back in the day when we lived in Iowa City on game day we would watch the Marching Band perform their halftime routine in the old fieldhouse prior to their march to the stadium, then we would see them at halftime, and also stay in the stands after the game to let the crowd file out and hear them some more. Listening to them that much was worth the price of admission. Plus that is when the drum majors and the band was more fun and acted looser.

This has all the feel of how much Mediocre has set in. lol. Amazing!!

Nothing wrong with the entertainment. However this is coming off as very cheesy!!

Barta almost assuredly got these ideas from his great friend and former Rock N Wrestling Promoter, M. Harry Smilac. Can't wait for Ric Flair to start showing up for our wrestling and rock band events. Isn't Smilac running a used car dealership in Iowa City nowadays?

I'll tell you exactly what this is. Barta is providing "entertainment" for every game so that he can publicly say "Our game day atmosphere is so entertaining, festive and exciting." This is a corporate ploy all the way. How many fans are going to enjoy blues at 8 am for an 11 am start? Remember, the bands stop when the team arrives. What time does the team arrive for an 11 am start?

Wonder how the band director feels about this.

What's next? - how about winning.

I saw the USC band play Tusk at Notre Dame stadium. Pretty cool.

This whole thing is either very cutting edge or desperate. Nothing enhances game day experience like winning. Maybe this is the antidote to fans falling asleep watching Iowa's offense.

At the same time, the last time I was in Kinnick, I could not hear the band from my seat on the south end of the east stands.

Oh well. I'm here in NC, big fat hairy deal.

There are drunks that cause issues now, and alcohol isn't served. I'm sorry, but your statement that it will cause ZERO issues is most likely false.

Barta is in a all out CYA mode.....he wants the new President to come in and see all the shiny new sideshows and say, "What, you want me to fire this guy....what for???"

We criticize for not doing enough to make game day better and then when something is done we criticize them for being desperate. I agree that winning will cure the ills, but doing something is better than telling us we're great fans and doing nothing more. I hate that type of patronizing. This at least demonstrates that they understand that the ol' pat on the back isn't going to cut it.

Also, I like the idea of free tickets to the students. Why not? Or, if they think they need to control it some way, sell tickets for dirt cheap - $5/game, so they'll have students with an identifiable ticket to scan. I hate seeing that empty block of seats in the corner. They need students at the game.

My last piece of free advice - when (not if) the Hawks win a big game, let the students come on the field. The liability concerns are minimal compared to the good will gained.
