Does it feel a little like 98?

I guess in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022. Iowa had similar records at this point but still had a mathematical chance to win the Big Ten West.

If the 7-team Big Ten West still existed the division standings would be

Iowa 4-3
Minn 4-3
ILL 3-3
Wisc 3-3
Neb 2-4
NW 2-4
Pur 0-6

And Iowa would be in first place.

Just seems like a lame duck type of season after watching that UCLA game
Wow! Yes sir! Eerie!

It isn't just that single loss. It's the 3rd one this season where whole team sucked and Iowa was manhandled. In context of recent seasons' horrible offenses, now we're seeing the D also contributing to losses.

Seriously, not hyperbole, there's a very futile aura that seems to signal "This is it ... This is Iowa football unless something changes."

Kirkfer and Phil are old and tired ... and look it! Perhaps closer to passing the torch??

I had a similar thought this morning.

I don't know, but there is something in the air. Just a gut feeling, but I wouldn't be shocked whatsoever if Kirk decides to hang it up after the season.

First, things have gone haywire after there was a lot of enthusiasm heading into the season. Second, the schedule was about as good as it's going to get for the next few years, and, third, Kirk has to have a sour taste in his mouth after his son was shown the door.

He may very well decide that it's time to ride off into the sunset knowing that it will only get tougher moving forward, and the landscape of college football will not be kind to coaches that are emotionally rooted in what college football used to be.

It all depends on next season...or the one after. As noted, they've had some crap seasons. It's the prime reason I advocated against Brain. It's rare that Iowa had two crap seasons in a row. Maybe a crap season...followed by an OK season...then a pretty darn good one. Or at least an interesting one.

And we would still lose the BT championship by 30 points
