The Self-Limitations of Recruiting at Iowa

I love the bickering between the recruiting experts...especially when Herb is involved

The only recruiting expert around here is herby. We all need to shut up and just read what he posts.

Herby, have you started your own blog yet?

What possible reason would we have to have 6 or 7 scholarships tied up in running backs, all of them JR year or younger? I understand AIRBHG is a vengeful *******, but that is beyond unnecessary.

And what tells me Dawson won't play is that he is not as good as Weisman, Bullock, Canzeri, and doesn't have the potential that Garmon, Hill, and even Malloy do. There is a reason he went to junior college in the first place....he drug his feet too long in the recruiting process, and teams moved on and rescinded their scholarships. If he was a high enough priority, they would have let those offers stand...

You are the one who needs to get a clue. You think you are the only person on these message boards who knows what they are talking about, but in actuality you do not. You continually attack people when they have differing opinions than you, and you appear to have the comprehension skills of a 3rd grader.

its you who has the problem, OSU has 8 RB's on scholarship, USC has 15 RB'S on scholarships 5 of them RSFR and have 2 of the top RB'S in this class commited, oh by the way Redd just transfered to USC.
and in Iowa's case "its called balancing the classes out". and another thing nobody new a damn thing about Weisman until the UNI game.
right now Iowa loses Gimm this spring to Graduation and their are no SR'S for the 2014 TO Graduate, just like getting "JUCO" QB Sokol was needed to getr somebody to fill the classes out, because after Weinke and JVB graduate, the next player is Rudock who will be a RSSO,
so both Dawson and Sokol were players of need Iowa got from the JUCO ranks

One little defense of this, both of those schools are much easier to get into than Iowa especially Boise State.

But, Iowa is much easier to get into than many of the B1G schools. Iowa is not academic integrity university...... It's not that hard compared to the schools we go head to head with. Bottom 1/3 of requirements in B1G.

All of this talk about academic requirements is beyond ignorant.

The NCAA sets minimum guidelines and schools can choose to go up from there. Some do, some don't. But there is only one school in the B1G that is harder to get into than any other and that's Northwestern. Don't think that Michigan's admission standards for someone like Ghost are the same for someone like Ghost who runs a 4.4 40 and loves going over the middle.

Checking the numbers, Iowa is graduating more players than Michigan is.

When Alabama and Oregon to name a few, were making regular stops to Iowa Western to evaluate kids, then I don't think it's to much of a reach for Iowa to go after a few, especially with the attrition we had. I don't want to build a program on JUCO's but when the need arises go get a few. Take it for what it's worth, but when Iowa does show up at some of the Community Colleges they don't leave a good impression, and Iowa Western has seen D1 coaches from all over the country and for Iowa to leave one of the worst impressions isn't a positive. I haven't reached the mourning stage and hopefully I don't get to that point because then I know we are done. I'm still in the anger phase because the staff needs to do a much better job then they have been.

I am still looking for clarification on this. What do they do that doesn't leave a good impression? How do you know they don't leave a good impression? Where does this information come from?

I agree on your juco assessment, KF got his "mulligan" with this years 4-8 finish another one would put him on the hot seat regardless of what his buyout is. Quite frankly KF should have started going this route once they lost a bunch of players to attrition in recent recruiting classes. The Hawks need to improve the talent in the upper classmen and the best way to do this is through junior college.

As far as recruiting the South, I do not think the coaches completely ignore the south as they do land a player from Florida once in a while. But I wonder if recruiting those areas heavily is productive. Not only are you fighting against every SEC school but the weather plays a part in it as well. If I am a high school senior on college visits the "atmosphere" of California schools and southern schools are hard to ignore.

Check out how many Clown recruits are from the South (FL in particular) vs Iowa recruits from the South. Clowns are recruiting that area more heavily and have pulled some talent out of there that the Iowa roster was completely vacant of this year (or at least it appeared that way watching the games). No more Mo Browns or CJ Jones. What the hell happened to grabbing guys like that? Those were our arguably our 2 best receivers of the Granite Head era.

There have been numerous, unsubstantiated claims in this thread.

RB Dawson came from IWCC, DT Wil Rathjen ICCC another area of need, QB Sokol from a Arizona JUCO another area of need, OL/C Eric Simmons IWCC a need after James will be gone, another area of need, DB Skradis IWCC and DB Smith ICCC, that makes 6 total, and 3 from IWCC which it appear posters are claiming Iowa "DOES NOT" recruit, and as the OP CLAIMS WILL NEVER PLAY A DOWN

Ghost all the stuff you come up with I think you can look it up yourself. Iowa would be mid pack in SE conference...sorry. In BIG1G, Iowa is on par with Nebby, Purdue and Iowa and maybe MSU. The rest are all higher on requirements. Iowa trails a number of SE conf school on academic entrance requirements. I looked it up last year, don't have time right now.

Ok ghost. A quick search shows this. It doesn't have a lot of university, but does have some SEC and most B1G schools.

Iowa is not the hotbed of Academic excellence. Nice school though. Other B1G's have bigger problems.

Iowa is Harvard compared to Kansas State or Boise State.

I hope Iowa does not model their recruiting after Iowa State.

ACT score a small part of it. compare the # of Academic AA, of the BT compared to the SEC. I think you will find a very big gap. the BT as a whole has a higher entrance requirement.
and the BT main leaders set the limit for the conference, schools like NW set a higher standard.
the NCAA has the lowest set of standards of grade point avg, # of core classes and qualifying SAT/ACT test scores, this is what the SEC uses, the Big 12 is just above this.
the BT has some of the higheer standards in scores, core classes required, they even have va requirement about where you are at in you graduating class rank.
this the biggest advantage the SEC has,, if you graduate they will take you, not so at Iowa.
you want to help Iowa in recruiting, call the Regents and demand that they lower the Academic requirement and they allow any kid that can graduate, to enroll at Iowa
