I have been getting into figuring out bird species from being on my kayak. From what i can tell from the picture i think this is a Swanson Hawk (locust eater hawk). Fun fact: chicks will kill and eat the youngest nestlings.

I'm going for a big year next year.

Omen or not it is pretty cool. Great to see an resurgence of this awesome bird in the wild.

I would partially agree with you. I enjoy seeing them too, but they're close to being overpopulated now. They have driven the already struggling pheasant population (one of the hawks favorite lunches) even farther down in numbers.

I think it is a Cooper's Hawk. That was my first guess when initially seeing it. first image cooper, second swanson.

Live hawk flew into the indoor practice facility while the doors were open. I've seen **** like this before. It's like The Crow or something.

When did mankind get to decide he was God and the determiner of how nature should be managed? Oh that's right, when he turned into a giant ***** 5000 years ago and set himself upon the path of self-extinction.
