Iowa State Bolsters Next Year’s Roster With Deonte Burton - See more at: http://rushthecourt.net/2014/12/22/...oola&utm_medium=referral#sthash.APYkg6Dl.dpuf
Was subject of the "Meanwhile over in Lames" thread Saturday that got nuked and Jack banned for some racist replies.
Do ISU fans think Thomas is gone after this year? I called SDW leaving a long time ago, I still think there's another open spot by the end of the year.

I say no. He is much improved this year, even if his stats won't bear that out. He will play a bigger role in the next couple of years.
SDW saw the writing on the wall. He got his shot early in the year filling in for those that were suspended, and didn't perform well enough. Great guy, great teammate by all accounts, but not going to play a big role on a talented team.
Where? With Cook being eligible next year and Long back, he's going to be third on the depth chart at SG. Plus ISU will have a lot of front court depth with Williams, Niang, McKay, Nader and the new guy from Marquette, not sure who Thomas will be taking minutes from. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him get squeezed out of the rotation again as the year goes on, he already only played 12 mins against Iowa and Arkansas and 13 against Southern.
I also think Fred will pull in another guard who can serve as lead ballhandler when Morris isn't on the court before the transfer season is done.
You could be right, and in a way it is a great problem to have. There are a lot of guys that aren't going to get a ton of minutes (Nader, McKay, Custer, Thomas) but are a big part of the rotation. They definitely will have to buy in to the team concept. Thomas has the ability, more than any of the other guys you named except for Long, to really spread the floor. Fred always stays with the hot hand, and if Thomas is stroking it, he will situationally get more minutes.
Winning is fun, and as long as guys like to play a part in that (even a small part) I hope they stick around. But if they want to be more of "the guy", more power to them to find a better place to do that.

Agreed, it's a really good problem to have and I don't think it's an issue of guys wanting to leave, rather Fred seeing opportunities for an upgrade. Thomas was brought in as the "best shooter in his class" and certainly hasn't lived up to that billing, if Fred sees the chance to improve the roster, I think Thomas will be the next guy on the chopping block.
That's where I disagree a bit. I think Thomas has a big enough role that he will stay as long as he wants to stay.
I give Fred all the credit in the world. There are always going to be talented transfers in this era of college bball, and he was out in front of it. What transfer wouldn't want to play for him. He has proven he can make it work and he is building a program that isn't going anywhere for a long time.Sometimes you just have to shake your head and laugh.

This post is depressing true, and makes me Jelly to the core. Instead we have a coach who continues to trot out a PG who can't finish at the rim. A coach who trots out Woodbury that can't hit a shot 5' from the basket. A coach who trots out a 3 pt specialist who can't hit a 3. A coach who trots out a SG in Clemmons who can't score......
I mean please, please, please God, give me a coach who will recruit over players who aren't getting it done.

I wish I could say the same in Iowa City. It's just salt in the wound at this point. But I will eat crow. I thought Fran could do better than Fred because of experience and I didn't see the transfer route working the way it has. I couldn't have been more wrong and it pisses me off. Next comes apathy. Not there yet, but if the BIG season plays out the way I think it will, it may come to that. I hope I'm wrong again.
Yes, if you aren't always trying to get better talent, you aren't ever going to improve. Wasn't Dickerson essentially an attempt to recruit over Clemmons?
