The Last Play (Video)

I think Weiskamp had a body on Bruno but just wasn't strong enough to move him. Not many are. I think Cook is the only guy who could have gotten that rebound away from Bruno but he took the play off for whatever reason.

Nobody bodied him up from what I recall. Everybody crashed to the ball like a 10U youth team. All they had to do is back one player out.

Weiscamp is in front of Fernando, but as he started to move for the rebound he was shoved under the basket. It would have worked better had he stayed on the ground with his butt into fernandos legs.
Yes. Again, should have recognized the numbers advantage. A Maryland player fell. We could have blocked Bruno with three guys and still had one left over to grab the rebound.

It wasn't called - that's the game of basketball - I thought Iowa got two great looks to win it - they didn't hit it. Them's the breaks - on to the next. I am hoping this helps the team refocus. I didn't have too much to complain about effort or defensively wise last night. Some times the shots don't fall.

I was disappointed that Bohannon took the shot regardless of the situation. But turns out he did exactly what he needed to do. Refs just didn't do their job. Does anyone think Bohannon misses there if he doesn't get fouled?

Tyler didn't even attempt to block Fernando out

This is why all the TC to the NBA stuff draws the criticism it does.

It's also part of why Fran gets so much heat... his teams are often weak on fundamentals. (blocking out, solid defense, ball security). Nobody tried to get a body on Fernando.

As for the end of game calls or non-calls...let's not go down to clone-ville on this. Hawks had their chances and didn't do it.

He just watched

Bohannon was hit on the arm when he released the ball

I don't believe the shot would have gone in anyway

Trajectory was entirely too low, looked like a line drive

Moss was, without a doubt slammed to the floor

Hawks were robbed

There is no doubt in my mind that a foul would have been called on the Hawks if the roles were reversed

Let's not forget the shot JoeW took earlier that was 4 feet short - he was hit on the arm and the shot didn't even have backspin on it.

Also, the JBo phantom foul. He was 2 feet from Cowan and had a shooting foul called; Cowan drilled both free throws.

Just like you could call holding in football on every play I guess.

However, when the back goes right by the guy holding, it's called - even in the late stages of a close game. Bohannon had the ball and was being fouled right in plain view and yet.....

Piss Poor blocking out by Iowa players...then followed up by the officials missing 2 blatant fouls where Iowa should have been shooting free-throws to win the game.

I thought the same thing. I think if he would have dumped it off to Cook the the right, I think Cook could have driven for a dunk and/or foul.

Side note: I'm not sure why they don't run any back door lob and dunks to Tyler or perhaps Moss if use Tyler as a decoy. Cook is athletic enough to go up and get about anything.
Paging Mr. Davis shot lob......

Live I didn't see Moss get fouled, pretty obvious in the video, but these refs weren't hanging around, soundly booed by the crowd on the non-call of the flagrant and again later on a non-call goaltend. I'm not gonna complain because there were a ton of non-calls during Iowa's comeback and some favorable calls for Iowa. I knew after Fran complained and the crowd went wild there would be no close calls at the end of the game. I thought they were fair for the most part. The bigger problem was the fact that JBo was not recognizing the double team and passing out of it. He kept getting trapped and throwing it away. Baer hit three threes and what does Iowa do? Doesn't pass to him again. Love JBo but man gotta give up the rock if your getting doubled. Maryland was clutch and deserved to win this game. You can't take to the midpoint of the second half to wake up. Iowa played the first half like they were asleep. No intensity, little passion, sloppy lazy passes. Until the last 5 minutes, I thought I was stupid facing a two-hour drive home in a snowstorm. Iowa was really forcing the ball to Garza first half, he simply was being overmatched physically by Maryland, Cook really didn't challenge them either. Weird game, Iowa could have won, just too many mistakes.

i didn't notice moss getting fouled live either. but it sure looks like he was.

having said that, MD beat iowa because of the single truth that has plagued iowa the past many seasons. not quick or fast enough to defend the perimeter dribble drive right into the lane. Toussaint cannot get here fast enough. then, more speed just like Toussaint's.

Actually they called the phantom foul a non shooting foul I think. Terrible terrible call tho.

Maryland didn't block out either. Sometimes the other team makes plays.

Bohannan is the pg. it’s his job to find the open man and make the play inside of a minute. Instead, he dialed his own number twice and barely drew iron once. He was double teamed on the last shot. Inexcusable he didn’t find the open man. His brothers are too much in his ear in my opinion

Well it's not like he had his shot blocked. He got fouled and it wasn't called. Not much you can do there. For all we know, if he would have passed the ball, the guy who shot it would have been knocked on his ass like Moss was.

So the Maryland guy is saying he got all ball. How does a blocked shot tip on a 3 point shot turn the shot into a line drive? He would have been better off saying he never touched anything. Saying he got ball is admitting there was a foul.
