The last ISU punt came at what point in the game?

That would be with 12:00 to go in the 2nd quarter.

You could analyze this thing a zillion ways til Tuesday...

For example, how the following affected the outcome:

Vandenberg wasn't sharp for two+ quarters
Bernstein couldn't play
Iowa's special teams put the defense in terrible field position twice
The defensive line couldn't get to Steely Jantz
The drop on Iowa's last possession

But on the flip side, you could also analyze how the following put Iowa in a position to win:

ISU had two more turnovers
ISU had five more penalties
ISU missed two FGs
ISU's best OL was hobbled for much of the game

However, the two things that will stick with me the most are the following:

1) Iowa State had 13 possessions. They were forced to punt TWICE; the last coming with 12:00 left in the 2nd quarter. That's a player execution and a coaching/scheme problem on the defensive side of the ball.

2) The coaching staff didn't go for the win (again) on the road. Iowa's kicker had already made a 50 yarder, the Hawks had two timeouts and 1:17 to go. And yet, they line up and run the ball on first down.

Iowa has had sooooo much success under Coach Ferentz, but he is now 6-7 against Iowa State. In how many of those years did Iowa State have more talent. Two?

They also had turnovers which is why they didn't punt more. Calm down. Have you seen Iowa play a West Coast spread team before?

they Had 17 points with 1:30 to go in 4th, on a drive that had three 3rd down conversions and a 4th down conversion. execute and win, and we are fine against ISU.

Really?

Because if ISU doesn't cough up those fumbles, they put up more points. They only time Iowa could keep ISU from scoring was missed FGs and turnovers. They were scoring against Iowa at will.
