The Insight Has a Tough Call

Iowa wins a game at Purdue and all of a sudden people are defending ferentz salary. Had they lost at Purdue many of the same people would be ******** about his salary. LOL. Ferentz has the best job in the world. All it takes is a win at Purdue and all is right again.

Okay, I get that you are upset about KF's salary.

As we all know, the Athletic Dept is self sustaining, and ticket sales, donations, etc. pay his salary.

In the spirit of self-disclosure, my family has been contributing to the I club and holding season tickets since the early 1970s. My dad passed away nearly 20 years ago, and I've taken up the reins since then. I still grit my teeth when I make the I club contribution, and often wonder if it's worth the drive to Iowa City, but I still keep the season tickets.

At any rate, I'm fine with KF's salary.

Do you contribute, and are you a season ticket holder? Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but I want to make sure that when you say "we" are paying his salary, "we" are actually talking about the same "we."

I agree. "we" are paying his salary. We being donors, and the original ticket
buyers.

People get ****** when we say this, but the donors pay the salary. That's a fact. Almost all season tickets holders must be donors. I think some seats in the end zones are exempt.

Ultimately, the fans that donate to the football program and attend the games (spending $$ on tix, etc) are the people paying Ferentz's salary. It's a de facto endorsement.

You are correct. People forget that. Although, I do struggle with the salary, for reasons I won't bore you with. I'm not sure what the answer is. I don't think it is a new head coach, although, I do think we need change somewhere.

Penn State has indicated they would accept a bowl bid. This is subject to change, predicated on any new information, I'd speculate.

Ohio State has self-imposed some additional schlorship restrictions on itself just last week. It is possible they might not go, in order to appease the NCAA into less harsh sanctions.

If Penn State goes, they will travel, even this year.

Sometimes at away games, I try to track down Terry, from Winebrenner Red Carpet Travel in Iowa City. Ask him where he thnks we are going, he is almost always right. Obvious reasons, if you understand they keep an office in the Iowa athletic department.

For selfish reasons, I hope we make it to Florida.

For unselfish reasons, (recruiting, east coast start time, etc), I hope we make it to Florida.

Arizona and Texas please the "old school" Iowa fans, who winter and travel there, but aren't beneficial to the future of the program. Florida, and east coast start time are very beneficial to iowa, given who wathces tv, when, and where we recruit.

I will not go to that H*** forsaken place. So I hope they don't pick Iowa again.

Jacksonville sucks too, but I can roll in just for t\he game fine. I actually flew into JVille for Cap One. Cheap flights.

Agreed. Also, as I have mentioned repeatedly, west coast games aren't good for where we recruit. Jacksonville (which I maintain is actually in Georgia, and not in Florida) at least gets us recruiting exposure.

I think perception, New Years Day Bowl, 8-4, and a signature win against another opponent (Hey? Michigan is going to the BCS? Yeah, we beat them. No biggie) help greatly with finishing out recruiting strong.. in a down/rebuilding year that many of us knew wouldn't be great (And there were plenty of chances for it to be in spite of that).

If we won, in a year many of us expected to be down, but finished with a better seasonal record than last year's lauded team.. what do people say around here? Especially the people that were so up in arms throughout the season.

I agree, but with one caveat. I'm not happy right now with the direction of the program, and some of the losses, at least in my observation, are coaching
related, and not player related.

I'm not advocating a firing, but I am concerned.

no way does Michigan get into the BCS, too many teams in the top 10 to jump them, plus they are not in the top 14 which i believe is one of the conditions to even be invited. if we get 2 teams in it will be the loser of the BT , championship game not a team that tied for 3rd overall or by themselves

All the "experts" are saying two teams form the B1G. I don't understand it either, but it's good for us if this should happen.

Penn State will go over Iowa with no doubt if Iowa loses next week. If anything, the issues surrounding Penn State will give their bowl a ton of attention and media coverage. Why would they take a 7-5 bland Iowa team with 2 bad losses on their record?

Advertisers might not want to be affiliated with PSU at their bowl game

What does this even mean?

Like someone will be flipping channels, see a commercial for Pizza Hut, then notice PSU and thus assume that Pizza Hut supports pedophilia?

This is one of the dumber things that I've seen.

Yeah, all those advertisers who dropped out of the PSU/Nebraska game were imaginary.

Win or lose this weekend, we will NOT get the outback over neb. Its their first yr in the B1G and they would grab their ankles to get that fan base their.

So, just to be clear: we are paying our coach $3,000,000 + per year and are "hoping" the insight bowl will pick us for the second straight year?
Not my concern, but . . .

if you want to pay your coach less, just give him "two" glasses of wine and his car keys. It worked for Missouri

I'm trying to figure out which scenario gives the B1G 2 BCS teams. I'm looking at the latest standings tonight and the highest B1G team is at 14. Meanwhile the SEC has 5 teams in the top 13, the Big XII has 3 in the top 11, and the PAC 12 has 2. Houston and Boise are in the top 8, and I figure one of them will go somewhere. I know that no conference can have more than 2 teams in BCS bowls, and the season's not over, but for the B1G to get 2-up, I think they're going to need a lot of help.

Assuming Michigan will get in is foolish. They are only a TD favorite this week against OSU. Plus they have to somehow get into the top 14 of the BCS. They are 15 right now, but the gap between 14 and 15 is enormous. Big enough to where a loss by many of the top 14 wouldn't likely drop them below Michigan.

I watched the entire Penn State/Ohio State game and didn't notice a lack of commercials.

How dumb are you, exactly?

Ads Yanked From Penn State Games | NBC Philadelphia

Cars.com, a website visited by more than 10 million people every month, made the decision to pull its advertisements from airing during Penn State games, in the wake of the recent sex abuse scandal

A Pennsylvania company recently made headlines over their decision to distance themselves from the Penn State scandal. Meadows Racetrack and Casino, located 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh, put Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris on hiatus after he vocally defended Joe Paterno.

"Penn State will likely be a risky investment for major corporations for a while to come, as the story's not over and will probably be kept alive with years of litigation," President of Makovsky & Co. Kenneth D. Makovsky told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
