The Hawkeyes are Playing in Cancun this Fall

I am actually against scheduling up, and, if you would have read my earlier post, I have no problem with the competition here.

I was talking about Herby saying that this tournament demonstrates an upgrade over last season's schedule, and I said that it was not.

But we can't play these type of teams in the postseason because it would be embarrassing, right?

WSU will be the returning MVC champion, this is the same conference that UNI, Drake and Creightom are in, Depaul is in the BE, which will get 9 into the dance, Major BB conference, not a lower level conference like the one Cambell played in. besides it is a tourney where schools don't control who they play as they play the winner of the prior game except the 1st game, the ACC/BT challenge is still a good game and like Iowa Clemson may finish with the same record and finish in 5th place in the ACC, who i get the feeling the matchup might just be NCState or Miami as all 3 are in a position to finish 5th-7th with Clemson, which is a big reason, on why i am confused by people claiming Clemson is a bad loss,
to me, how is losing to a team in the middle of the ACC is a bad loss is baffeling, ISU is improving so that will help Iowa, the question now is who will be the last 7 opponents will be, one of the 7 will probably come from the Pac-12
its a start i don't think a schedule of Duke, Kansas, UNC and Syracuse does them any good

You've put a lot of thought into this but very few will read it, the Enter and Shift keys are your friend...

If we can continue to improve, have an inside presence with existing and new guys, and find the perimeter game to replace what Gatens brings, I guess we'll be pretty good......

WSU is rated #10 by pomerroy, and will be the defending MVC champion, Depaul is a Big East team loaded with young talent, if some one that can understand the RPI and post each of the other teams RPI, i would appreciate it, after the las 6 season you can't really expect the top tournies to look at Iowa, this is clearly a step up, at worst i see 2 matchups against low RPI ranking teams, and 1 that will be against a top 50 RPI if not higher, and i would expect Depaul to be in the 100's at the worst,
a question though. are there 4 games or 3 in this exempt tourny

herby, do you have me on ignore? I have posted the RPI's already and have told you Iowa will play 4 games in this tournament.

Current RPI of these teams:

Riviera Division
DePaul - 201
Iowa - 130
Western Kentucky - 220
Wichita State - 10

Mayan Division
Austin Peay St - 188
Gardner-Webb - 297
Howard -292
Western Carolina -245

sorry i missed the posting, but thanks it goes to show it is not as weak as the Dale Howard where the only positive team in the rpi was Creighton.
there is nobody in the 300's.
hopefully they get in the following order;

Western Carolina 245
Austin Peay 188
DePaul 201
WSU 10
those would be the 4 best possible opponents.

with it having 4 games
that leaves Iowa
with a ACC/BT making it 5
ISU making 6
Drake/UNI 7
PAC-12 8
with 5 to go
and i feel Fran will be very selective in choosing those teams, and after seeing how the low Rpi affected this team, will make a concentrated effort in getting better teams, on the schedule,
and people can forget about a possible top teir team matchup, in their eyes we are a meaningless BT conference bottum feeder that they have nothing to gain by playing.
we will have to fill out the rest of the schedule with the higher level mid majors, hopefully Butler or teams like that will be interested.
to get the big boys you need the TV monies involved to get them.
and getting the home court money is to be consider, there's are few mid majors that can afford to host a BT team no matter who it is

My initial reaction was happy to see the Hawks in one of these early season tournaments outside the state of Iowa again, but I was hoping for a better field to boost the SOS. Having only one other team from one of the BCS level conferences (and it happens to be lowly DePaul) really doesn't help anything unless Iowa wins the tournament.

at this point in time beggars can't be choosey, and at this time Iowa is in the beggars position. and after last season tourny i will take it. to have a shot at team that will finish in the top 20 of the RPI is great.
a BCS level team and a chance at another top 200 rpi team at home only helps
