The crowd was great and the hawks played like bullies

Yeah, many students headed out of town Friday PM. I know it's a smaller school, but Northwestern includes tickets to all athletic events with their fees.

They should also over-sell the student section.Fact is that the students squeeze more bodies than seats into the rows, leaving the top areas relatively open even if sold out.

Oversell the student section by 2k, or sell general admission tickets for the top 5-10 rows in the south endzone in order to alleviate this problem.

Great idea and most students are skinnier than us old fat slobs so they can fit in more fans in their area.

And what young male student wouldnt want to be crammed in next to a beautiful coed or most any coed.

Quite tastefully casual and fighting for his Lads.....

Agreed...student tickets need to be such a bargain that they need a lottery system when they sell them. Students pump enough money into the school as it is. Throw 'em a bone when it comes to sporting events.

Why not toss in a pair of free bone socks to sweeten the pot and help them get their heads on straight.....

Support your school and put the smart phones away for a game every now and then.....

Right on...to both posts. Student tickets should be close to free. First come first serve...reward those most fired up and ready to support their classmates. There should NEVER be an empty seat in the student section.

Correct, if you wanted to be warm in this day and age of thin thinsulate layers, chemical warmers, and high tech gear it is easy to do. You can buy -30 degree socks etc which my son had on with another layer of socks and he was warm with tennis shoes.

Me, I go with two layers of socks and insulated boots because once my feet get really cold it is miserable.

My son and I were really layered up and it was comfortable. Our friends were fine.

Now if you dont wear enough layers and right kind of clothes then that is your fault.

I layered up, had two hats, two pairs of gloves, fleece long underwear, hand warmers in my gloves, and in my winter boots that are supposed to keep you feet warm to -30...it was chilly but manageable. At one point I gave my hand warmers and an extra hat to some teenagers behind me that weren't dressed for the weather. They left at halftime and I go my stuff back. One of the hand warmers in my boot actually burnt my foot! I was surprised how many fans actually attended based on all the comments here that nobody would. It was a great ending of the game at Kinnick, for the seniors at Iowa. The cold must have kept the fans perky as it was one of the more animated games I've been to...even when the Hawks weren't doing so well in the first half.

Some of the fans were perky booing the hawks or the coaches as they left the field at halftime.

That was a rather inglorious moment I thought.

Student section was weak. A lot of them left at halftime because they apparently thought a north face pull over and some yoga tights would be warm enough. Haha I made it through the whole game and was very loud in the student section.

Our tickets were split up between the north and south endzones on Saturday. We all dressed for the weather, but sitting in the south endzone, with the wind blowing right at you, it was pretty darn cold. Those sitting in the north endzone had the wind blocked from them, and they were fine. After hanging in the concourse for half time, we ventured back out to our seats......got to enjoy a nice Hawkeye victory.

i was in the south end zone too. The wind never stopped and it was the first time I was jealous of the north side with the sun in their face. The sun finally hit us midway through the 4th quarter and made a big difference.

Agreed. It seemed that the sun began to shine on us as the Hawks were making their comeback. I am sure that it wasn't a coincidence!

Congrats to all Hawk fans that toughed it out. The crowd noise came thru the tv loud and clear, and I think it really mattered to the Hawks in that second half. Cold game crowds in tight games are always animated as they want to get the blood flowing....and maybe flasked out....great game, hawk fans and players...and even coaches!

My lips burn a little today from being out in the cold that long, but it was worth it.

Yes, some students left at halftime. But a lot of them left town for Thanksgiving.

We were in town Friday including some campus touring with my daughter. As we sat in the lobby of Burge, there was a constant flow of kids with duffel bags of laundry being picked up by their parents. I think a lot of the students were gone already for Thanksgiving break

Ill buy that for the freshman and sophomores, but the upper classmen and women have apartments and can go home for the holidays when they see fit.

Also have to give a shout out to a random Hawkeye fan. I had my 7 year old. During half time, he was downing his hot chocolate and pretzel, trying to warm up a little. A guy came up and offered up his extra hand warmers. Had to turn them down, because he already had those in his gloves. What a nice gesture on a such a cold day at Kinnick!
