The crowd was great and the hawks played like bullies

We won but if the hawk offense would have been efficient with a couple of nice field position starts in the 3rd qtr and make one fg of the two that were missed and the hawks win by 10-17 pts.

But the crowd was great especially in the second half, really loud urging on the defense. The cold air carries the noise better but there were some times I stopped yelling so I could hear the din of noise coming from the crowd.

But wow that defense most of the game just totally pushed back the michigan blockers and runners. MIch had a little luck with that fake pass delayed run play but the hawks soon sniffed it out and manhandled the MIch running game and beat up on their receivers.

Great attitude from the players. Other than the big mistakes from the one position, it would have been a blowout.

It was cold but amazing how much warmer it became when the offense played with a pulse. Good win no matter how bad Michigan is. Iowa gave them the game in the first half but fought through it.

Kudos to the crowd, but weak effort by the students. There were hardly any students to be found. Sad.

Yep, there were 2000 empty student seats and they had no faith because they were gone at halftime, at least 3000 more empty seats during the second half.

I'll add my Greg Davis comments in another thread...because they sure as hell need to be added.

BUT... what a great day in Kinnick. Made the 600 mile round trip with my daughter in tow (in-coming Iowa Freshman in 2014). We endured the weather and like the team...played 60 tough minutes.

This felt a bit like a throwback game... cold, brutal and tough, tough, tough. Our guys never gave up when the chips were down and when it mattered they were at their best. Jake Rudock makes his mistakes, but the kid has ice-water in his veins. Iowa has had more athletic QBs and better arms, but he has the kind of savy, intelligence and composure that you can only compare to Chuck Long.

Best part of all... Meyer's FG, Hitch's big strip and recovery and CJ's big catch to seal the win... all big plays by outgoing Seniors. Not to mention some great hits that Morris had. This win felt good...real good. Better than one has in awhile.

GO Hawks!!!

And check out this great pic. Hitch says... "NO! THIS GAME IS OURS!"

I haven't seen an Iowa team show that kind of emotion for a long time. For an entire game. THEY were pumped.

^Kirk was showing a lot of emotion today, too. You could really hear it in his voice in the post-game interview with Dolph and Eddie.

I agree it did sound pretty loud on tv. Looked pretty damn cold to

Actually the tailgating was the coldest we ever had until we got all the tents up.If you dressed for it the game wasn't bad and the team played great.Defense was awesome. On to Nebraska Go Hawks

Correct, if you wanted to be warm in this day and age of thin thinsulate layers, chemical warmers, and high tech gear it is easy to do. You can buy -30 degree socks etc which my son had on with another layer of socks and he was warm with tennis shoes.

Me, I go with two layers of socks and insulated boots because once my feet get really cold it is miserable.

My son and I were really layered up and it was comfortable. Our friends were fine.

Now if you dont wear enough layers and right kind of clothes then that is your fault.

Yes, some students left at halftime. But a lot of them left town for Thanksgiving.

We were in town Friday including some campus touring with my daughter. As we sat in the lobby of Burge, there was a constant flow of kids with duffel bags of laundry being picked up by their parents. I think a lot of the students were gone already for Thanksgiving break

Oh I know that the students were leaving town. But the game started with the normal 2000 or so empty seats from the student section that have been empty most of the year.

Barta needs to cut the cost of student tickets to try and sell those out or really cut the cost for single game student tickets. Barta should also create an easy student-fan exchange where students can sell a season ticket for one game to a general fan who usually doesnt get to many games.

Agreed...student tickets need to be such a bargain that they need a lottery system when they sell them. Students pump enough money into the school as it is. Throw 'em a bone when it comes to sporting events.

They should also over-sell the student section.Fact is that the students squeeze more bodies than seats into the rows, leaving the top areas relatively open even if sold out.

Oversell the student section by 2k, or sell general admission tickets for the top 5-10 rows in the south endzone in order to alleviate this problem.

Bingo. Over-selling the student section is the way to go … in addition to lowering the price. Get the kids involved. They are the season ticket holders for the future so it's really an investment now that will payoff later.
