The Booing

I am old enough to remember 1970''s Iowa football.
This seaason feels and plays like the last years of the Bob Commings program.
Lack of B10 level talent.
No imagination on offense.
Bad coaching.in all areas.

Time for a complete reboot of the program.

Remember 1970s Iowa football? I had season tickets from 1971 through 1978. Why? Glutton for punishment I guess. Totally agree with you on the last years of the Bob Commings program. Its just SSDY now. I also have noticed on a macro level pretty much the same things starting to happen.

Lack of Big10 talent.
No imagination on offense. Plus no execution.
Bad coaching on all levels.

Wasn't it John McKay when asked about his teams' offense execution said that he was in favor of it? Maybe not, but the same sentiment applies here.

When I moved back to the state I bought season tickets from 1985 through 2016. I'm 73 now so no tickets for me. If the ship doesn't start moving in the correct B1G direction next year then give the Kirk the broom and start over. I'm confident we'll find someone other than coaches in the MAC.

The problem with a reboot (especially with the money out there today) is that when you start over you have a 1% chance of a landing Hayden Fry, and 99% chance of five Mike Rileys in a row.
And if we do not reboot we have a 100% chance of having what we have now.

Maybe; but then again I think Iowa would be considered a pretty attractive landing spot for a lot of good coaches. Why? The program has only had two coaches in the past 38 years; the guy you're succeeding lasted forever for essentially going 7-5 or so most years, having a losing bowl record and winning only two conference titles (so far) in 19 years. He got paid over 4 million a year to do that. Add in great fan support, good facilities and a nice community to live in and I'd say that's a pretty attractive gig for most coaches.

I'm glad I wasn't there yesterday, although I almost wish I had been so I could boo the crap out of this pathetic group of don't-give-a-shit coaches and players.

I would not boo the players. They were not put in a position to succeed. That's football.

From the Kinnick Edge site:
  • Complete your seat reservation gift ($1,000 per seat) to guarantee access
    • Seat selection time will be determined by priority points, as calculated on Nov. 15, 2017
  • Annual contribution: $1,958 per seat + cost of football season ticket
    • First annual gift is due by May 31, 2019, prior to 2019 football season
Agree with the prev. poster - no way in h$ll would I pay over $2,000 (donation + ticket) to sit in an end zone!

1) Above prices are for seats in the new Club Level ONLY. There will be many standard endzone seats above and below the club level that won't require annual contribution. Apparently the club level is already 60% pre-sold.

2) Kirk needs to understand the value of a good kicking game, even if it costs him a few scholarships. You can't develop kickers the way you can a lineman or linebacker.
3) Please recruit wide receivers who can get open and catch. I don't care if they can't block.
Rant completed.

That is a defeatist attitude, and a perfect example of Kirk Ferentz football: don’t take a chance because something bad might happen.
If Barry Alvarez was doing the hiring I’d agree with your statement.

Gary Barta is a spineless little weasel of a man who doesn’t know a first down from his ass.

It seems that the sure sign of the impending firing of a HC is the firing of the AD. When did that begin? It wasn't that was for more schools 30-40 years ago. Now ADs and HCs seem to go together like rats and Black Death.

Booing is pretty pathetic. Get over yourself. It is a game and they are college kids. If you aren't happy, leave or don't go to the game.

College "kids" a few years ago were drafted into the military. Spare me on the "kids" nonsense.

Agreed. They are not "kids". They are young men. I don't see any pictures of college athletes here:

Anyway, regarding the booing, it's something I personally choose not to do because it doesn't feel right booing my own.

We are all on the same side, players and coaches are both trying their best, and I consider both players and coaches a part of the team. So I don't care for the "I was booing the coaches, not the players" or "boo the coaches, but not the players" stuff. I see it as one and the same. Booing any part of the team is being the team, in my mind, and I don't see why one is OK but not the other.

I'm not here to lecture anyone else for doing it, though. Just my personal choice.
